  1. What are the details on the play Ryan is working on?
Danny and the Deep Blue Sea was written by John P. Shanley. Shanley is also responsible for Moonstruck, January Man, Five Corners and Joe Versus the Volcano. He produced Five Corners and directed Joe Versus the Volcano. The reviews I have found of the play are incredible. I'd love to personally see Ryan perform the role of Danny - I think he could do an incredible job with it. If you would like to read a copy of the play itself, it can be purchased from Amazon.com (follow the link and you'll go directly to the listing). If you'd just like to see a sample review, you can visit New York Minute Theatre Maxim's homepage. If you would like to read a copy of the play, please Category: Acting FAQ

  2. Does Ryan have any plans or interest in returning to the stage or screen with his brothers?
When I spoke with him on November 28, he said that he really wanted to get back into acting. When he first started acting years ago, he wasn't sure if he was doing it for himself or to please others - and at the same time felt some people thought he was doing it just because he was a Cassidy. Now he wants to do it for himself. He likes to be up on a stage and performing. He would love to do some films as well as stage work but television, he says, allows you to have a life which is part of the reason he likes doing the behind the scenes work right now. He's in a scene study class right now.

I should note, too, that Ryan and Shaun worked together behind the scenes on "Hollywierd" for Fox but the series never aired. Shaun wrote and produced along with Clive Barker and Ryan worked on set design and props.

  3. Besides Facts of Life, what other roles has Ryan played?
He was Kevin Metcalf in Facts of Life and that is his best known role. However, he has been in a few other things. He was the male lead in Lionel Ritchie's Penny Lover video. He is a military officer (he wears all white with a few medals) and he gets the girl. It's an unspoken role but except for a little in the beginning and end, Ritchie is the only one who gets to speak. He was also Jake Hittman in an episode of Jesse Hawkes. He was one of an elite army group. It was a small role and he was underutilized as usual but he did quite a bit with it. Of course, he was the Constable in his high school production of Fiddler on the Roof. He has done a few things on stage and I'm working on getting that information for you! The rest of the time he has been quite busy just plain playing Ryan....and does a fantastic job of that...

  4. What kinds of roles is Ryan looking for?
He likes emotionally charged, intense dramatic roles - ones with extreme anger, pain, and such because he can draw on that. He said that he would love to get a role like those in Saving Private Ryan. He does like doing comedy, too and if a role came a long that required singing,he would definitely go for it.

  5. I saw another "Ryan Cassidy" on the web and obviously they aren't the same person. Does Ryan know?
I have gotten this question a bunch over the past (almost) two years and it is the reason I put the qualifer ("80s Actor, 90s Set Designer..." on the original main page - just to avoid any confusion. If you have any question as to whether they are the same person, see the previous question and answer......But seriously, no, they are definitely not the same person. The other Ryan Cassidy is, well, a porn actor and our Ryan does know. He is quick to point out that when people go into the line of work the other Ryan is in, they don't use their real names and make up new ones.......but of all the names in the world for someone to pick! He says it has lead to some interesting situations and after awhile, it gets to be a bit funny, actually. Okay, is everything clear now? That is also the reason I have bought the ryancassidy.com domain name - to keep the name as, um, clean as possible. The other Ryan and his video distributors cannot use it in any way, shape or form now. Ummmmm....next question?

  6. When did you become interested in acting?
High school, really. Maybe my junior or senior years, doing whatever plays or musicals the drama department had going.

Simply going over your lines. Repetition. Read through them again and again. There really aren't any shortcuts.

  8. How do you develop characters?
Determine the objective - what is it? Who is this? I associate it with what I can in my life. A lot of comparison. Read the text and figure the objective. Figure out the character's past from what is in the text.

The rewards of entertaining an audience. Telling a story, allowing someone to enjoy that story. The satisfaction of being up there and being lost in a character.

  10. How does a director help an actor?
It depends. A director in TV is more of a technition while a director in film works more closely withthe actor. They tell you how to work with the character, help you prepare and understand the character. A director in television is more technical, helping you find your marks and such.

  11. Is it a possibility that Ryan will be involved in front of the camera for one or more of Shaun's projects?
I wouldn't say it was impossible. Ryan and Shaun worked together behind the scenes on the ill-fated Hollywierd. It's always been my impression that Ryan wants to establish himself on his own and prove his worth as an actor. He seems to have a definite idea of what he wants in the form of roles - BUT I doubt he's closed his mind to anything and if his brother offered him a tempting role, he just might take it. After all, both their mother Shirley and Shaun's wife Susan have appeared in some of Shaun's productions already.

  12. How come Ryan doesn't act on TV anymore? I loved seeing him on Facts of Life and I think he would be great on a sitcom nowadays.
It's not that he's not trying. He does go out for auditions but he's still trying to break back into the business. Not that he would turn down a good television role, but he's really looking for movie and stage work right now. He's also balancing his auditions with his current full-time career behind the scenes. He's doing what he can and is as anxious to get back in front of the cameras as we are to see him do that! We just need to be patient until the right role and opportunity come along.

  13. I recently got a copy of the program for The Family Game and was wondering if there was a reason that your bio uses your middle name.
No real reason. He printed and submitted the bio from here on the site. They edited it a little and used the middle name simply because that's the way it was in the bio. Actually, IMDB.COM now lists him as "a.k.a. Ryan John Cassidy" to differentiate him from the porn actor - which we always appreciate.

  14. Are you a dancer?
Yes, he dances. Absolutely. As he put it, "I'm not a total stiff. I can dance." So he would feel comfortable if he was cast in a musical? Yes.....but it would take a little work.

Yes, he does do accents. Loves to do them, in fact. In particular, he does German, Irish and British. The German accent is his favorite.

  16. Is Ryan playing the role of Tom Bartlett in the TV version of the movie "Simply Irresistible " ? I think it was on TNT made in 1999.
It wasn't our Ryan. I checked the Internet Movie Database and the 1999 movie had Sean Patrick Flannery who does is need look very much like Ryan and is about the same age. There is another production by this title that is listed as currently filming but Ryan isn't working on this production, either.
