  1. What was the atmosphere like on the "Facts of Life" set?
Actually, it was very supportive. This was his first professional job and he was very nervous. The girls really rallied behind him and helped him out. Of course, he knew Mindy and they had been friends for quite some time. The director happened to be the same man who produced Maggie Flynn on Broadway (both of his parents were in that musical) and therefore, he knew and helped Ryan. There was an acting coach on the set to help him out as well.

  2. Did the Facts cast hang out together?
Yes, they certainly did and had a great time.

  3. Does he still speak with members of the Facts cast?
No, he really hasn't spoken with them in quite some time. He indirectly got a "hello" from Mindy via a mutual friend a while back but that is all.

  4. Does he have a favorite Facts episode?
The first one he did - "Two Men From Appleton" because it was so exciting. There were some interesting connections there as well. One of the extras happened to be the drama teacher from Beverly Hills High and the wife of the late Dick O'Neil was the voice coach from Beverly Hills High School. In addition, about a year before Mindy had introduced him to a friend of hers who was dating Nancy McKeon - Michael J. Fox. Michael happened to be in town filming Back to the Future and called and then came to the set to wish Ryan luck and offer support.

  5. What did he think of all the teen magazine attention?
He didn't have to talk with them much. The early stories during David's and then Shaun's reign, were written without talking to him and then, while Ryan was on Facts, he briefly spoke with them - but he didn't seem to regret the limited exposure.

  6. I only remember Ryan in 3 episodes of TFOL but I've read that he did 5.What happened to the other 2 and why were they never aired? Also, why were TPTB of that show so stupid as to have went on with George Clooney instead?
He was in five and all were shown - but in syndication they kind of pick and choose what they repeat. The first was "Two Guys from Appleton" - the first episode where Kevin arrives with his father. The second was "With A Little Help From My Friends" where Blair's boyfriend has a drug problem. The third was "Man in the Attic" which was focused on Ryan's character moving into the house with the girls. The fourth was a brief appearance in the first part of "Gone With The Wind" where the girls go on spring break. The last was "It's Lonely at the Top" where Blair takes over running the shop while Mrs. Garrett is gone and learns about how to manage people. Then Kevin Metcalf went to take out the garbage and disappeared into probably the same void as the eldest brother "Chuck" on "Happy Days". Ryan has told me that they weren't really sure what they wanted to do with the show and just opted to go with someone who had more experience like George Clooney. Was that a good decision? My opinion is the same as yours seems to be - no. I thought that, even with his inexperience, Ryan had more charisma and appeal to the audience. Something about him and that character clicked better. I also thought that the show seemed to suffer and fall apart after the many changes they made the next season. But that is my opinion and I'm sure people will disagree. Ryan holds no grudge against George or anything and has commented on that. That just seems to be the way things work in that business, I guess.

  7. Was Ryan approached to appear in the FOL reunion that is going to be filming shortly? (from Valinda and Anna and Cheryl and many others)
As much as I think we would all like to find out what happened to Kevin after he took out the trash that fateful night....Kevin won't be appearing in the reunion. I don't know if he was asked. I doubt it since Kevin wasn't a part of the series long enough. I do know that there has been a lot of speculation about it and that when the series ended they all agreed to never do a reunion...... UPDATE: I have been informed that Ryan was actually on a cast list from Touchstone as making a cameo appearance. However, Ryan knows nothing about this and, at this point doesn't have plans to be in the movie. If he is actually asked and decides to do a cameo in the movie, we will be the first to know.

  8. There's an article on your site,I think a tabloid one, stating that he and Mindy Cohn dated. Is that the reason Ryan was considered for the role of Kevin Metcalf?
Ryan and Mindy were friends from high school - in the same graduating class, in fact. The story was one of your basic media fictions - creating "relationships" for publicity purposes. Similar stories ran regarding Ryan's brother Patrick and Brooke Shields and then Patrick and Justine Bateman. Did it get Ryan the job? Probably not. This was the first season they were adding male cast members and they needed more than that. Even as a complete rookie, Ryan read extremely well and they did go with two prominent names with guys from solid acting families (solid sitcom acting families, to boot). Plus, if they were looking for coverage, why not the kid that teen magazines had been following for years?
