The William Soutar Writing Prize 2008 - Win place on an Arvon course
The William Soutar Writing Prize 2008 Perth and Kinross Council Libraries and Lifelong Learning This is an annual competition now in its sixth year, alternating between poetry and short stories. In 2007 stories may be entered for the 2008 prize. The Prize A course at Moniack Mhor, the Arvon Centre in the north of Scotland. The Judge Novelist and short story writer Laura Hird has agreed to judge the William Soutar Writing Prize. She will announce the winner on Writers’ Day, Saturday 8th March at the AK Bell Library. The Rules · All entrants must be 16 years of age or over · Stories must not exceed 2000 words (not including title) · A maximum of two stories may be submitted · All entries must be typed, double-spaced, on one side of the paper only. · Three copies of each story submitted must be provided · Entries may be in English or Scots · The competition is open to anyone throughout and outside the United Kingdom · All stories are judged anonymously and the name of the writer must not appear on the manuscript · Stories must not have been previously published · Competition entries cannot be returned – please do not include a pre-paid envelope · The Judge’s decision is final and no correspondence can be entered into · Alterations cannot be made to stories once they have been submitted · Entries must be accompanied by an entry form · There is no entry fee for this competition · The copyright of each story remains with the author. The author of the winning story grants Perth and Kinross Libraries the right to use the story in publicity material for one year from 8th March 2008 · It is the entrant’s responsibility to ensure that the above rules are adhered to The Closing Date The closing date for entries is Monday December 31. The winner will be notified in early March with the formal announcement as described above. Unsuccessful entrants will not be individually notified. Usually £475 for 5 days, though bursaries are available |
