Hi Davey,

Just curious, what is the minimum donation in order to get your name on a board?

Re: "BEACH NEWS"

Please... check out this link ...for insight and further information.

http://www.sdrp.org/projects/Boardwalk/Coastalboardwalk.htm

(Copy this link, and paste into your browser)

Being a community sponsored boardwalk in it's early planning stages...it's hard to set a minimum...so "ANY" pledges will be credited and accepted, to complete project.

Your $100.00 pledge gives you your board with name plate...see photo's in link provided

The link above shows that this community had pledged $100.00, this pledge went towards professional planning and engineering...wood boards, stringer supports, anchor piers, plaques and end of project social...

The community rallied together in a massive "ONE DAY", build.

Think were up to the challenge???

Show your dedication towards this project, pledge your support!

Thanks,
SC-DC

Re: "BEACH NEWS"

Thank You so much for the pledged support so far...

wow $800.00 what a great start...

The TEMPERATURE IS RISING...
Along with our pledge thermometer...

...lets "reach for the top"

We're thinking that a minimum pledge for a single board with small "engraved name" plate,

... will be $25.00

Any amount over and above, will mean that you want that many boards with engraved plates...unless otherwise specified as : "general donation to project"

Example:

$25.00 pledge
= 1 Board with engraved name plate

$100.00 pledge
= 4 Boards with engraved name plates

Some exciting NEWS WILL UNFOLD AT TONIGHT'S C-CAN MEETING 7PM AT THE MILLENNIUM CENTER...WE WILL BE ASKING ANY INTERESTED PERSONS TO "GET-ON-BOARD" AND JOIN OUR SUB-COMMITTEE TO HELP OUT WITH, SPEARHEADING THIS PROJECT...PLEASE DON'T BE SHY...AS AN EXTENSIVE AMOUNT OF NETWORKING WILL BE INVOLVED...

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR LETTERS AND PHONE CALLS OF SUPPORT...ENCOURAGEMENT IS VERY REFRESHING...

SEE YOU TONIGHT!

Re: "BEACH NEWS"

I think that $25 is a very reasonable donation. I'll be talking to you soon about our donation.

Perhaps you aught to set a time limit, give everyone an idea of the time frame they have to work in.

Re: "BEACH NEWS"

Recently I've been made aware ....through Fred Lammi's comment and letter to the City of Sudbury.....since there are words like 'greater' in the new name for this city...and I can't call it that yet.... but I'm appalled that the diving board has been removed from the "island"!!

Posting this reply... will now bring the 'Beach' Committee's..project and wonderful goals back to the top of online's forum...and must bring attention of the control and enforcement on the beach front. Isn't this your town's domain???

Certainly, it is understood of 'liabilities..or concerns.... for irresponsible...reckless behavior'...but c'mon folks...what the heck has happened here...that diving board was the *****demon..excitement...challenge ***..for our youth that goes way back in time...and now it's gone...

.....I read some of the blogs in the Sudbury Star.....support and admonishment for the diving board removal...so now what..nobody has taken the challenge..no alternatives..or suggestions...if you're happy with this...good...but how about some support for the Beach Committee and "Friends of Lakeshore"...get involved and ready for great ideas and concepts.....stirring the pot here....as my dear old dad Harold Prescott liked to do ..what do yah say folks..."community involvement" eh!!!

"ps"..I'm not going to go away...I'm your concience 500 miles away ....speaking...

Re: "BEACH NEWS"

I heard the diving board was taken away cause there was only 15 feet of water under it... Now you see this is the part that causes me the greatest confusion since the Howard Armstrong (complex) their diving board is much higher and they only have 10 feet of water. Or the Laurentian pool. They have 12 feet of water, and our LUCKY FREE MOVING WATER has an amazing 15 FEET. I don't understand can anyone provide some light to this one?

There's more to life that a diving board. This town has more problems then that to solve.

Re: "BEACH NEWS"

Hey Fed Up, if the town has more important problems, and I agree, you sent your message to the wrong people.
Send it to the twits who removed the diving board and tell them not to waste time on trivial things but solve the real problems.

Re: "BEACH NEWS"

Well without getting hostile..(not me but whoa some people need a cup of coffee or something..)I'm sure they had great reason to remove it. It was safety hazzard. Now, tell me if they didn't get around to removing the diving board and someone did happen to get hurt who be the ones complaining eh? F.L? yep. Some people in this town do nothing but complain about every little thing. Think first.

Re: "BEACH NEWS"

It appears to me that your annonymous name says much about...you.....sir/madam.."fed up" ..but what has made 'you' fed up...is it "about people who complain or 'don't' do something to improve your town..or the politicians who ignore more "important matters" that need attention...or someone becoming an expert on something like removing a 'landmark' of the town...that was a safety hazard for 60 + years??.....or ???...

"so please tell me ...what are 'you' doing to contribute, promote and improve the town of Capreol....??

Your solution it seems it sit back ..read these blogs or topics and be critical and negative....there are many wonderful citizens in Capreol that ARE trying to do something...

PS... Thanks ...and I just had my coffee...

Re: "BEACH NEWS"

It is sad to see the diving board missing.

However, times change, kind of like... when children used to be allowed sitting in the back of pick-up trucks while parents drove out of town and back. IT wasn't a crime to pack your child a peanut butter sandwich in their school lunch. You get my point.

We now live in a much more 'cautious' society then the one we grew up in.
I guess if the City can avoid a potential accident that may happen under their clock (i.e. while their lifeguards are on duty watching within the buoy lines that are much further away from our diving board, then of pool diving boards) then one can only assume that this is what they are trying to do.

In the meantime, we have drug problems at the skate park and within our youth in this town as young as grade seven. We have graffiti appearing all over town (on our beautiful landscape - vermillion river rocks, it's only getting worse). And we have police who patrol at 4pm in the afternoon, when nothing of this nature - fireworks, underage drinking, destruction of property is going on.

Again, it is sad that times change and life evolves. We still have 'good' in this town just open your window and listen to the birds and the nature that surrounds us.

Re: "BEACH NEWS"

What's lacking in this community is good old fashioned "common sense".It seems some people left it behind awhile ago. Try playing devil's advocate for a minute. A diving board is not a town land mark. It's just a piece of wood which was removed for safety measures.

God forbid if something did happen to a child or anyone for that matter the same people crying for the stupid diving board would be writing editorials for the Sudbury Star complaining about it *not* getting removed. So remove the rose coloured glasses and come back to reality.

I'm sick and tired of people (the same old people) complaining about others sitting back not doing anything. Well congrats you're awesome for painting the train and getting the beach together and whatever else you awesome folks are doing...Some of us are doing our share..we just get left behind in the popularity contest. Unless you have concrete proof that some of us are just sitting on our behinds , I suggest you sit on your hands and eat some crow.

P.S I think you need more coffee. And one more pat on the back. This is why I hate this town. The popularity people think they are entitled too.

Hello Emma...I take it you didn't vote for my father...thanks anyway..he served many years for the fine people of Capreol....the engine is a 'national treasure' and the finishing touches by my 'popular family' is as gift we're all proud to do for the wonderful people of Capreol........many fine citizens and friends of my family have come out to make sure that was going to happen...keep up the good work Emma....we can make a difference eh...

Re: "BEACH NEWS"

Dear Emma,

I do not believe that the hard work that some people contribute to this town is all about
Getting a pat on the back. However I will agree that there are others that are self serving in their motives. I grew up in a large city, and please believe me when I tell you that the
Majority of the community was segregated and distant. I am sorry that you hate Capreol,
But I for one will work hard to make this a nice place to live, be active in the community, and do not need accolades! I know what I have accomplished, and that is enough for me to sleep well at night. As for the diving board, maybe a fund raiser can be held to pay the liability insurance the city would incur on a yearly basis then get it returned. I hope to meet you at the next CCAN or Heritage Days meeting so that we can discuss together how to improve our home town!

Proudly signed,
David Bateman

Re: "BEACH NEWS"

Well sorry to burst your bubble but I was not even on this earth yet to vote for your father.
I find it pretty presumptuous for you to suggest I didn't vote/ or wouldn't have voted for him. Who knows I probably would have. I'm not knocking the work put into all of this. Really, I'm not. I'm upset with the fact that some of us are being called lazy...ect. Just because I haven't had the time to put into some of these projects doesn't mean my time is not spent elsewhere. Just don't forget that.
I'm allowed to speak my mind as is anyone else who hasn't helped in these projects. Don't paint us all with the same brush.

Now, I hope this topic can get back to the original intent! What can we do as a community to help the Friends of Lakeshore do to improve our community and way of life? Davey, I am behind you 100%!

Re: "BEACH NEWS"

Thanks David....maybe we can backtrack a little bit...I believe I addressed my comments to 'fed up' and asked what the individual was doing to promote..contribute..support or involve themself in the town of Capreol...did I miss something...there was a tribute to the wonderful citizens who are making a difference.

Implying everyone reading or observing these blogs are not contributing.. is not my intention....but I won't be eating 'crow'...prefer good old fashioned steaks... thanks anyways....

So what I got was someone who wants to chastise and deamean a fine upstanding family and their efforts to help restore a jewel of the town. And a diving board has been removed...ok....play somewhere else...but how about helping the 'Friends of Lakeshore"....to find an alternative for the youth of the town...

geez.....lash out and say I called you lazy or indifferent ...it seems somebody has to find a life ..

Re: "BEACH NEWS"

Arggg... It was not my intent to put a family down. I wouldn't do that. Like I said earlier , I applaud the efforts of our volunteers.
I was more upset about the implication that some of us do not want Capreol to be a better place.
Volunteering ones time doesn't have to be defined by the ones who think they are doing more that anyone else is. There are many people out there , helping others in Capreol without getting any recognition at all..(This was my point)But because we aren't helping with this project or the beach project out opinions don't matter. That's what hurts.

Hello everyone...

..."Everyone's Opinion Counts...

The origin of this topic can be searched back in other forum subjects.

Whole point is that once... " *We (* interested in helping, time giving, people are assembled, ...everyone is welcome)" as a group of concerned citizens...

...We will all gather and volunteer / dedicate time.."that we HAVE to spare"...and collectively decide on design...etc.

Once a plan is laid out and enough support and pledges are raised...away we go...community sponsored...openly available to dedicate to...

TRUE COMMUNITY BOARDWALK...completely transparent...

...and did i mention organized by volunteers...that are unpaid...and trying to make something out of nothing...

Just Pledge Your Support Please...

******************************************************

On that note...can we please get back to...

"Suggestions on building our boardwalk..."

Please....that's 3 X'S

Look...there are many more hoops to jump through before we can even get re-started,

..."*We" need the drive of the Emma's in the world....

We just hope that everyone reading and supporting will read back on original intent...then, click on over to:

It is an attempt to involve "EVERYONE"

hope this clears things up.

Re: "BEACH NEWS"

I hardly think that the Prescott Family's project of painting the Locomotive is a "popularity contest". Someone (a member of the family) obviously noted the disrepair of 6077 and decided to take the bull by the horns by making it a family project, thus honouring their father/grandfather, who was a great asset to Capreol.

Emma, maybe your comments were misunderstood, but you certainly made it sound as if you were angry at the whole situation. There are many "silent" volunteers out there, and that's great. This project was made public so that people such as yourself could get involved if they wanted to. If I lived in town, I certainly would have loved to get my hands dirty!
