New businesses in town
Hey All, I am looking to open up a new business in Capreol but I am having a hard time deciding what the new venture will be. I am looking for something everyone will want and need. Any suggestions? What do you think this town needs? Lets hear some feedback

Depending on how much you want to invest...A Timmy's. Lots and lots of traffic in and out of our town these days..even at 5:45 a.m. Or a CASUAL clothing store, something for the middle income group. I wish you luck in your endeavour. |

Re: Tim Hortons Sure would be lovely. Especially on some property just arriving into Capreol, i.e. next to the bowling alley or the gas station. Azilda has a small one, but Azilda has more traffic. http://www.timhortons.com/en/join/franchise_ca_faq.html The cost of a full Canadian franchise varies from $430,000 to $480,000* (CDN$) (plus all applicable taxes). At least $144,000 of the franchise cost must be unencumbered (cash or liquid assets), in addition to $50,000 in working capital (also unencumbered). The remaining amount may be financed through the chartered banks, upon 'approval' of a franchise. |

Angie, Good luck to you and your new business. You won't get a Tim Horton's here, it's been tried before. You have to have a certain population, and they said NO, even with the traffic through town. You could opening up a small coffee shop, maybe Country Style, or something alone the lines of the old Popeye's. I use to work there, and lots of people came in at night to drink coffee and have a small snack at night. |

“Lots and lots of traffic in and out of our town these days…even at 5:45 a.m.” So there’s lots of early birds in town! Perhaps they can take advantage of the timetable change on Via Rail’s transcontinental train. Starting December 2, 2008, the westbound train from Toronto will arrive in Capreol around 5:30 a.m. It would be great if the train could stop for an hour or two. The June 25th press release states that an evening departure from Vancouver and Toronto will eliminate the need of a stopover (hotel) in Toronto. The cross-country journey will move from a three-day, three night trip to a three-day, four-night schedule and will also include additional time at select (Capreol) enroute stations where the opportunity for touring is possible. According to the new schedule, the eastbound train departs Winnipeg at 11:30 p.m., so arrival in Capreol will probably be between 12:00 a.m. and 2:00 a.m. |

Beach Bum, it would be great if the train would stay over, cause I don't want to get on it at 5 in the morning to go to camp, but that is not going to happen...the stop here is long enough for them to water and get gas. As for the through traffic, I am not sure if it would be enough or not, that would be up to Tim Horton's Corporation...Good luck though... |

Nice Try The new timetable might inconvenience Capreol train travelers, but IF Capreol was selected for an extended stay it may be good for visitors. The last thing those deep-pocketed, first class tourists see when pulling in to Capreol from Toronto is Prescott Park & the rear of the Museum. It could be a boon for local restaurants, Capreol Beach & Boardwalk, ect. Copy and paste this URL for the article and new timetable http://www.newswire.ca/en/releases/archive/June2008/25/c7307.html |

A small cafe perhaps? Specialty coffees, espressos, quiche, cookies, muffins and crepes. Local artist's paintings and artwork on display. Overstuffed couches and a fireplace. Some jazz trio entertainment on a Friday evening. Just a thought. |

Hi Angie...Doug here....just had a visit to the town with some my family from Windsor and also others..... who came from all over for our reunion last weekend..... To see the town and it's beautiful surroundings was so great..my brother Randy took us out to the rapids on his bush machine..my little grandchildren were in awe of them..... We drove around to the waterfront...looked at the beauty of this gorgeous Vermillion river winding by the town.....what I'm saying is....tourism and visitors must get to see this little town by the river....the town has 4 seasons to offer..down here in boring...but fast paced southern Ontario we don't have that many places like Capreol to see and enjoy. The Muskoka's are beautiful as well..but pricy and crowded.....while Capreol has great food and a facility like the Mill Centre to spruce up and promote. What an opportunity for somebody with connections and vision to capitalize on eh... something to consider

It seems to me like a river rafting/touring kind of set up would be a good business... I'm not sure if there would be a winter component though...

How about the cafe idea.. with homemade soups, sandwiches and pastries... in a used bookstore environment? Maybe bring in newspapers that would interest people that they would normally have to subscribe to or go to Sudbury for? |
