Veronica Mars and Kevin Hill on UPN this Fall
So what's up with UPN having two potentially cool shows in the fall line up? Personally, you know I supported Buffy and Roswell when they moved to UPN. And then I also liked Jake 2.0 (largely because I like Christopher Gorham from Odyssey 5 and Popular - oh, isn't that on dvd now?).
But the buzz on Taye Digg's new show Kevin Hill is incredible. So I will watch it and see. He plays a hotshot, bachelor, of course, attorney, who is suddenly faced with having to raise his brother's baby girl, i.e., his niece.
Veronica Mars is a drama about a teen who works with her father P.I. Well, I like those teen shows so we'll see.
Anyway, Wanda/Kristin at eonline.com is pushing both of these shows too. I tend to like what she likes aside from the reality stuff.

Well, I watched the series premieres of both shows. Veronica Mars is re-running on MTV. That should widen its audience. It will also help me catch it. I am going to stick with it. And Kevin Hill holds promise. The courtroom/law firm stuff was reminiscent of Taye Diggs stint on Ally McBeal. But so what? It's interesting that two Homicide alums are on it - Jon Seda and Michael Michelle. I think I saw that Homicide Season 5 is due out on dvd. I digress. So, I plan on watching Kevin Hill some more too.

As I watch Veronica Mars while awaiting the first Presidential Candidates' Debate, I am struck by another Homicide tie: Kyle Secor is in Veronica Mars and he was Bayliss - our entree into and exit from the world of Homicide. Funny coincidence.

Veronica Mars theme song
The theme song for Veronic Mars is "We Used To Be Friends" by the Dandy Warhols off the Welcome to the Monkey House album (3/03). It works really well for the show. I also heard the song used in the VH1 Bands Reunited episode for Information Society. Then I was watching DiG! and I saw footage of The Dandy Warhols, specifically Courtney Taylor-Taylor performing it and was like, 1) hey, that song I like is by the Dandy Warhols; and 2) wow, they are going to get a lot of well-deserved mileage out of this one.

Kevin Hill theme song
Well, I was pleasantly surprised to learn I already had the Veronica Mars theme song (We Used to Be Friends by the Dandy Warhols) in my music collection.
Now that I know the Kevin Hill theme song is by BT and Calvin Richardson, it makes me wonder if I already own that too - unless it's an original just for the show - because I know I have the most recent BT album.
I got BT's Emotional Technology because of the Replacements connection. Tommy Stinson plays bass on "Animals" and "The Only Constant is Change." Well, I took a quick look and it seems like it's a new song just for Kevin Hill.

Veronica Mars/Kristen Bell in Spartan
I finally saw Spartan and thought Val Kilmer was really good in it. If you don't know the plot, it's about how the daughter of a high profile politician goes missing. The daughter was played by Kristen Bell pre-Veronica Mars. Just an FYI.

Kristen Bell in Pootie Tang
Hey- I was just reading in EW how Kristen Bell says she's often recognized as the girl in the end credits of Pootie Tang. I don't remember her but I do remember enjoying the movie and wishing desperately for dvd extras especially commentary by Louis CK. It is one of those subversive movies. It's more than it appears to be on the surface. (Yes, I sound kinda pretentious there but I just mean it's a much better movie than you might expect.) I noticed it's been on cable lately so maybe I'll catch the appearance this time around.

I really want to know what the name of the song that played while Logan was on his dad's boat waiting for Veronica, you know when she stood him up because she found out he had the drugs the night she was "raped". Please tell me if you know i'm dying to find out!

I don't remember the pilot music so all I can say is that maybe it was Joe Cocker or possibly Mandy Moore??? I don't even remember if it was a male vocalist or not. Are you sure it wasn't John Hiatt?
