Athens 2004 Summer Olympics - Women's Marathon

I've been watching here and there but not with particular zeal. Then yesterday, I was with a bunch of friends and one of them was glued to the Women's Marathon. My other friend said, "This is like watching golf to me- not a whole lot is keeping my attention." We were getting our jollies trying to divert the marathon-watcher's attention when suddenly British runner, favorite to win, Paula Radcliffe dropped out. We all stopped laughing and were riveted to the tv. By the time Deena Kastor entered the stadium and clearly had the bronze, we were all in tears. I was sitting in back and my friend turned around to see me with tears streaming down my face trying to act like all normal. It was very emotional! It was so thrilling to watch! I can't believe they ran 26.2 miles in 90 degrees Farenheit - not to mention in under 2.5 hours.

NYC Marathon 04

So Paula Radcliffe, of England and from the previous entry, placed 1st in Women's in the 2004 NYC Marathon last week by 4 seconds (2'23"10). I hope Susan Chepkemei of Kenya who placed 2nd still realizes what an amazing athlete she is. Okay, that's all I have to say about that.
