Temple Newsam - What did you think?

Many thanks to all the stage personnel for their excellent efforts at Temple Newsam this morning. The stage ran very well from our prespective and the few competitor related incidents were resolved very efficiently.

We are always keen to hear feedback so what did people think of the stage - stage personnel and spectators alike?

Re: Temple Newsam - What did you think?

Hi Jon, Can't think of a better way to spend a morning. Friend that I dragged out of his wife's bed at six o'clock said he's going again next year. It was dead easy to get to and to park. Butties were vital (bit dear but I wasn't paying) got fantastic sound recordings of me being pelted with stones and dust as the Escorts came through, Stratos replicas were a nice touch. Changes I'd make - more cars, more names (celebs to bring deserved extra press?)and get myself organised to get up into the forests afterwards! thanks for your hard work.

Re: Temple Newsam - What did you think?

Easy access, drove pretty much straight in and out again.
Good viewing and great atmosphere, just like the stately home stages of yesteryear.

By the looks of things, a challenging start for the competitors.

Re: Temple Newsam - What did you think?

Many thanks for your comments. Its good to know our efforts are being appreciated and it makes all the hours of planning worthwhile.

Deepest commiserations Pete - everyone's worst nightmare to breakdown on the startline of SS1, especially on an event like the Roger Albert. When you didn't appear on the retirements list for a day we thought, and hoped, that you had got the Alpine going again. But not to be.

Hope to see many of you out on our stage on the Robin Hood Forest Stages.... roll on March!

Jon.

Re: Temple Newsam - What did you think?

I loved the stage. Thought I was a bit rusty after a long break. The grass bit up the middle was a surprise, as was the barbed wire fence on the outside of the corner, and the long straight along the side of the woods is a deal shorter and narrower than it looks on google earth.

I'd like to say that the stage was set up well and the marshals were superb, Jon but in honesty, I didn't see a bloody thing after the start.

A definate for next year!

Re: Temple Newsam - What did you think?

Great stage to start the event just like the good old days of the statly home stages on the Sunday of the original RAC in the 60's and 70's. Shame you can't do a few more of these on the 1st day of the rally next year, before the real rally starts in the forests.

Re: Temple Newsam - What did you think?

A brilliant start to the event Jon, a great venue (it'd be nice if they'd let us back there again!).

The 30 second start times were just right for a stage of that length, although I saw that by the end of the stage Banner on his second run was fast catching the rear of Car 31, the Lancia Fulvia, on his first. A slightly shorter time between SS1 and SS2 may have helped.

Congratulations to all of the Organisers and Marshals for another excellent event this year, particularly those Marshals in Greystoke who got completely soaked and those in Ash Park and Kershope - it was a long day/late night for you guys.

Thanks to Steve and Jimmy. The close competition made for a tantalising event.

Re: Temple Newsam - What did you think?

What a brilliant first stage. Keep it in and I hope we get the grass triangle right first time round next year.Sorry to the marshals there for our first run via the grass, but I bet it woke you up!!!

Excellent stage to get the the rally under way. Thought guy stood in the gateway with a no entry sign on 90 right was very brave !!??

Thanks again

Re: Temple Newsam - What did you think?

Either brave or foolish...

Ask a silly question but have the organisers approached the RAC to sponsor this rally..? it just seems so natural that their logo (maybe they could even use the old blue and white logo?)should be on the banners, programmes etc next to Rogers face.

Is their going to be a film night once the footage is edited?

Re: Temple Newsam - What did you think?

The marshal with the stake may have been with us, the no-entry board had gone missing (at post 10, one of the 90 rights, before a bridge) so it was in the process of being replaced!
