More entries
To the organisers ; As a rally compeditor and service crew mwnber on the RAC for 3 years I comment all that organised the event and have nothing but good to say about the event, there is however the question of getteing MORE entries to continue the sucess. May I suggest the following as I for one would enter on this basis. RAC to be a one day round of : BTRDA cahmpionship ANCRO Championship Historic Chamionship Kall Kwick (as current) 2WD MUST run ahead of all 4WD All cars scruitineered on friday (increased publicity and public interest) Split the events over the 3 days with multi points per day as in Belgium. Allow multi enries 1 day, 2 day or all 3 with a reducing entry fee for the more days you enter for. Compeditors would only get a 50% refund if they pull out of any day if entered muliple days. There must be many compeditors who would enter but the cost is beyond most of us clubmen, the clubmen can halp this event and make it a great specticle. What I would ask is that any clubmen like me who would potentally enter a multi day event lets all email the organisers an show them the potentail they really have. Stuart White |

If there were sixty entries and half pulled out on the second day, where would the £30k come from to pay them their refund binasow it's already been spent on forestry and stage hire charges? The single day events you talk of already existed this year in the form of Kall Kwik on Saturday and the Clubman Rally on Sunday. I'd love the rally to be cheaper but if you do the maths it's difficult. If the entry fee was roughly halved, you would obviously have to get more than double the entries so cover overheads. Can the event run with 120 entries? |

I think the entry this year was just about right. It is good to be able to watch the whole field through each stage and still have enough time to get three separate stages in each day. Too many more cars and it would make it far more difficult, if not impossible to do that. The timings this year were better than previous years. It wasn't necessary to thrash from stage to stage to get there in time to get a good parking place and vantage point. |

Is there any way to take deposits on entries earlier? I see the same pattern each year. After each RAC everyone raves about it, and swears on the lives of their children that they will do the event the following year. I know I did, even after the launch at Peace Gardens in Sheffield. Then things 'happen'. My navigator is commited to do the event with someone else. Plans change. You don't want to make a commitment till the car finishes the Trackrod in one piece, and then it all seems a bit of a rush to find a co-driver etc. The result is less entries. I thought maybe the organisers are missing a trick by not riding the wave of euphoria immediately after the event, which inevitably dies down a bit after a while, as it all goes quiet on here & other events steal the limelight. If there was a scheme to put in £500/£1000 now, I wonder if a few more would have a go? And once the money is spent, people would maybe feel a bit more involved, and commited to the event. Worst way Delacy have to return of the deposits if people back out, but they have had the interest for a while. |

Good idea but I can see faults. Like returning deposits. That's not a deposit if it has to be returned. And no one would pay knowing that they wouldn't get it back if anything happened. De-Lacy would budget the event on x number of confirmed entries then suddenly half have gone and all have their hands out for money returning? I think a date with less clashes would benefit. This year it was in the very close vicinity to Ireland, Revival, Wales 12 Car and African Safari, all of which must have sapped some entries, service crews or spectators. Sorry I seem to sound argumentative about all the suggestions on this forum but I've been a CofC myself and can see this from organisers and competitors points of view. I think it's a field of dreams. Build it and they will come! |

Dave, I meant a returnable deposit. Sure some would want their money back, but a few may well see the money as gone, spent, allocated. If their name was on a provisional list on t'internet they might be reluctant to remove it. It shows some intent, some commitment to the event. I can't see it as a problem for Delacy regarding planning for a certain number. There will always be late entries and withdrawals. Until the rest of the money is paid then they wouldn't rely on the 'provisional' entries. It's just a thought. After the Trackrod we planned to get the engine problems sorted & then do the BHRC next year. The RAC wasn't part of the plan. However I popped down to Elland Road for scrutineering &(it is the only event which has this effect) I would have paid £500 there & then to book an entry for next year. You realise what a mistake it is not to be part of it all. By The Robin Hood next year it will be a memory, and by July I will have forgotten about it, and by September £5-8k or whatever it costs suddenly seems a lot for one event. |

Sorry guys I didnt mean to muddy the water but all of us I feel agree its just far to good of an event to loose. All ideas should be put forward on this forum and hopefully someone will listern. In the end it dose(s you say Dave) come down to money. Stuart |
