poor open rally coverage

what a top rally, the best i've had plesure to be a team member on, mint!
On the other hand i think the coverage of the open rally is really crap.
They pay the same money, do the same stages and same miles, and have the same expenses as the historics but get very little coverage, the 5 or 6 lines in motorsprt comic was a joke, and on the home page of this site pictures of banner winning, but nothing of the open class winner? Come on support the clubmen or is the open class not as important?
Rant over totally mint rally the best. Keep it up

Re: poor open rally coverage

I'm sorry that you feel that the coverage of the Open event in Motorsport News is poor, I suggest you take that up with their editorial staff...

As for poor coverage on this site, I apologise wholeheartedly. I think that the Open guys are the often unsung heroes of the event. Clearly, the big news this year was Banner winning the main event but that wasn't to suggest that the efforts of the Open competitors was any less. I have now included the top five results of all the events on the 'News' page and if anyone has a good "action" shot of car 51, Richard Hill/Patrick Cooper I can use on the page too then that would be most welcome!

DB Jim

Just to be factually correct, the '5 or 6 lines' was, in fact, 40 lines.

Best regards

Re: poor open rally coverage

The open has always got the ****ty end of the stick when it comes to coverage and seeding etc. Banner has been fastest every year (Miggins might have beat him in 2005?) but got little credit for it. The loan car silenced all those who said that he was previously running with an unfair advantage such as Vauxhall engine, trick suspension etc. It took a run in a proper histeric car to get full recognition of his achievements.

Am I just biased though?

Re: poor open rally coverage

Just to be even more Factually correct!! I finished 2nd o/a in the open rally and no body from Motorsport news asked me how i got on?? punctures catching cars etc and it says on the paper that we finished 3rd o/a not 2nd!! But after John reid finished 2nd o/a last year and didnt even get one line?! i didnt expect anything more!!

Brian

Not sure where you see yourself as being listed as third in the Open Rally - it says in the report that you were second to Richard Hill and in the results that you won class E4 (I know the print is quite small!)

Maybe I didn't introduce myself properly. I spoke to you at least once (start of Greystoke for instance), when, according to my notes, you told me that it was 'a dream come true to be over here' and that the event was 'unbelieveable'. I would have liked to give you more space; but the battle between Bannister and McRae rather dominated this time.

What I will readily admit to is that the Open Rally deserved more space than it got. I've taken some stick about this on the chin and promise to try and do better next year.

Re: poor open rally coverage

Thought I'd bump this to the top again after watching the official video for the event.

Absolutely brilliant though the coverage is, once again, the Open rally gets less coverage than deserved. There were some proper battles going on in there and not a mention of interim results.

Sorry Dave. Not slating the video as it's excellent, still doing the event again in 2008 and will still buy another DVD of that one but still feel that the open gets less coverage than deserved.
