Light on the Story
This thread - and any thread marked with a light bulb - contains information relevant to the Avendale story. If you wish to ask any questions about Aristasian life and language for use in the story (or just out of curiosity) just ask here. Also if you want elucidation of elements in the story. Here, for your information: Sara-chenya means "most-honoured sister", "chenya" being a stronger honorific than "chei". It is the formal way of addressing an elder sister, Shin-cheri's switching from the familiar/affectionate Shen-cheri to the formal and obeisant Sara-chenya is normal when she changes from addressing her as sister-and-friend to addressing her as Elder Sister. Those familiar with Japanese honorifics may be surprised to find Shin-cheri referring to her "honoured sister". Honorifics tend to be absolute rather than relative in many parts of the Aristasian East. It would be rude not to apply them to one's "own people" where they are due, rather than (as in Japan) the reverse; although, of course, one never applies them to oneself. "Mengxia-cheri" (personal name plus affectionate/familiar honorific) is normal when referring to a younger child. |

Avendale is located in Quirinelle, as is the mansion of Lady Endeline of Endeline that the Avendale students are temporarily housed in. |

A slight correction is in order here. Avendale and Endeline are both on the Quirinelle-Trent border, but while Avendale is in the Quirinelle side, Endeline is on the Trent side: so the girls are currently in Trent. |
