Mirror Thread: Proposals and the Chain of Command

Rather than bother a registered user to post a reply, it seemed to make sense to have a mirror thread here.

Here is the Blue Camellia Club thread.

I don't know anything about InvisionFree's forums, but I have previously had experience with Ezboard forums, both as a member as an owner. Their services seem almost exactly the same.

As for the adverts, we can pay to remove them. I do not know if the current Blue Camellia Club is free, or if we're already paying for that.

Concerning the material at the current Blue Camellia--it would take a lot of work, but we could possibly move it to a new board as archives. Some of it, like the weekly White Rose Room notifications, may not necessarily need to go.

Re: Mirror Thread: Proposals and the Chain of Command

I was not sure whether to post the original there or here either.

That, I suppose, underlines the necessity for a single Forum where everyone can post.

The Blue Camellia server is a private one used (but not exclusively) by some Aristasians, so we are not paying for it. It should be possible to leave the current Forum in place as an "archive", though it might be neater to move it to a more "archivey" location eventually.

That server also hosts the Encyclopaedia Aristasiana which has given no trouble other than the odd short period of down-time, so it would only be a question of moving the Forum.

The trouble with the current location is that it is often quite difficult to get problems sorted out (as we have seen over the last several months), and it would be better to have one whereunto we had direct access.

From your experience would EZboard be a good one to use? And can one export the database - or is all the material there at the mercy of a company that might collapse taking all our data with it?

Re: Mirror Thread: Proposals and the Chain of Command

I only have a few rather quick comments:

Unless things are irreconcileably ruined at Blue Camellia, perhaps it does not need to be moved. Is it possible to register for another forum through the same server on the same domain? It would be easier to archive that way.

If not, I am able to offer most of my elektraspace filing system as storage until they are transcribed and reposted. It is a reliable university system with several backup systems. We will never lose those archives, providing that you are willing to entrust them to me. I assure you that they would be safe.

Re: Mirror Thread: Proposals and the Chain of Command

It's a little hard to compare them justly since I don't have experience posting in the Blue Camellia Club.

Ezboard has the frillies that the current Blue Camellia Club has: avatars, titles, multiple forums, signatures, moderators. It also has lots of board colour/style customization possibilities, as well as the potential of finding new pettes through the board search option. (That could be good or bad.)

However, I don't think it supports characters that aren't A-Z, 0-9, or usual punctuation. (That would mean no Asian text for us.) It doesn't have an archive option--unless that's some paid member feature that I didn't know about when I had an ezboard...oh, eight years ago in middle school.

The little brunette voice in my head is saying that we should stick with the current Blue Camellia Club, as it is free and established. However, as a blonde I lean toward whichever is the prettiest, or of course whatever everyone else decides.

Re: Mirror Thread: Proposals and the Chain of Command

I think it would be annoying not to have Asian text when we need it, but that is fairly minor. On the other side, it would be nice to pretty up the forums a bit more (if we stay with this one I don't see us ever getting away from the boring blue stuff we have now) - but that is minor too.

What would really knock the idea of an external forum rather firmly on the noggin would be the fact (if it is a fact - I am still confused) that it would lose older posts. A lot of valuable marterial gets posted at the Club, so we really want to keep it intact.

We have had a couple of data-losses at the current Club, so it is not totally secure in that respect - but obviously far better that one that discards old data as a matter of course.

Having some backup system would be ideal, but I have no idea how to operate one.

There - I am not voting one way or another - just bringing up my current thoughts!

Re: Mirror Thread: Proposals and the Chain of Command

Let us wait for what Brunette Management has to say about the matter. If the Blue Camellia is locked to new pettes for eternity or is likely to accidentaly lock more often I'd vote for moving, but if the problem can be solved I would very much like to stick with the Blue Camellia. It seems (to me at least) there are already quite a few old fora archived somewhere. Let us not add another one and make things more complicated than necessary.

Re: Mirror Thread: Proposals and the Chain of Command

I must agree with Fraulein Landgrebe. Although not having access to the Blue Camellia Club can be frustrating, it is just as frustrating for pettes to have to move about so often. Creating a sense of community in elektraspace is difficult enough without shipping pettes off here and there, and we do not want any new or less active maids to feel as though they cannot find their way home.

My offer of storage still stands, but it is only so that things can be properly archived on a secure server so that if, in the event that we must create a new forum, things will remain in order. Perhaps it is necessary for forum repair and maintenance to be delegated by Brunette Management, if necessary. We do not want to put all of the pressure on one pette.

Re: Mirror Thread: Proposals and the Chain of Command

Here are my suggestions for and questions regarding the Virtualian Event. I thought it would save some time writing them down here instead of having to type them all during the White Rose Room meeting tomorrow. I will number each point so we can refer to the number instead of having to explain each time what we are talking about. I hope all my practicalities are not too confusing.

1. I think the event should take place on a Saturday evening starting well before the regular White Rose Room meeting and lasting several hours. This in order to allow pettes from all corners of the world to attend without having to stay awake until the middle of the night.

2. We should not wait too long, so if we cannot manage to organise all before next week we should have our event the week after.

3. We should invite all members of Aristasian groups. Someone should write an invitation letter including a landmark and send it via the groups. Which ones of us have the authority to send notes to all members?

4. The embassy has to be in order before the event. I suggest Miss Poppy sets up the teleporters and landmarks as we have discussed before. This means keeping the second floor private. Handing out a landmark for the second floor only to known pettes and having only one teleporter (going down) on the second floor. The chapel, teahouse and of course ground floor should be accessible to guests.

5. If we wish to dance it would be nice to have some music playing. Maybe someone can find out how the owner of the land (in this case meaning Miss Poppy) can arrange this?

6. Miss Joans should be able to hand out more than just gin & tonic. We ought to buy a script that allows pettes to choose from several drinks.

7. It would be a good idea to have some information dispensing objects. We could make a list with our many elektra sites and a note with upcoming events such as the White Rose Room meetings. I could use Miss Trentiana's script to have something give pettes a notecard with this information when touched.

8. I will see if I can buy more of those poseballs that make us sit so prettily at the bar.

9. Now that we have mastered (or at least understand) flexible prims, we can make a flag that moves in the wind.

10.Can we create a temporary title in the White Rose group that indicates us as hostesses?

Re: Mirror Thread: Proposals and the Chain of Command

1. Perhaps we should consider making it at least 2-3 hours earlier than regular meeting times. That would give ample time for pettes to retire after the event.

4. It would be efficient to hand out landmarks to known pettes before the event happens, so that they can teleport directly there if need be. If this creates too much preparatory work, then perhaps several well-known pettes could be delegated during the event to hand them out upon greeting arrivals.

5. Does anypette know which station the Marzipan uses?

8. If I may be of assistance in this way, or any other way, please let me know.

The radiostation used at the Marzipan is Radio Dismuke. If you could find out how to play music on property that would be wonderful.

I thought it might be Radio Dismuke... it is one of my favourites. Thank you, Fraulein.

Perhaps it will not be that hard. I will look into it.

Re: Mirror Thread: Proposals and the Chain of Command

A link on streaming music for Miss Poppy.

It is simple and free, if we choose to use Radio Dismuke. If we wish to play our own music, it is a little more complicated, but if everypette were to submit some upload sites with their favourite up-to-date music, it would be easy to build an iTunes playlist and stream it through one of the recommended ports the Wiki lists.

Re: Mirror Thread: Proposals and the Chain of Command

Since I will still be at my university when we have the party, I cannot guarantee that I will be able to get in, but I think it is a marvelous idea.

I don't have much up-to-date music, but I'll be happy to share what I have! What sort of music are we looking for? Something to dance to? Something for the background to set the mood? Vocals, or just instrumental? (I promise, I'll keep the nasal Chinese opera to myself!)

Re: Mirror Thread: Proposals and the Chain of Command

Rayati, Yu-chei!

We should wait for Miss Poppy to decide whether or not we will use a radio station or compile our own music. If she decides on the latter, we will sort it out then.

I hope your end of term is going well.

Rayati !
Thank you for the interesting link Miss Yatsenko.
I was also wondering if you could post the Wiki page, please? I'd like to know a little more about this mysterious subject which is music in Virtualia (and elektraspace generally) just in case.
Thank you !

Rayati, Signorina del Giglio!

The link I posted for Miss Poppy was, in fact, the Wiki. Most of the information on streaming music can be found there by following links.

I have posted some condensed notes from the Saturday Rosary meeting (digressions omitted, of course.) They were intended for Fraulein Landgrebe, but anypette can have a gander:
