Episcopalianism, Empires and lhi Haiel'Raihir
The thread on Episcopalianism and Empires has become so enthralling that I thought it should not hide behind the concealing title of "Happy Nativity"! I therefore take the liberty of continuing it in a new thread. Honoured Lady Aquila, thank you yet again for clarifying my question on the Napoleonic and British Profane Empires. I wonder if it could be said that the European Union is the final Profane Parody of the Holy Roman Empire, which has dropped all pretence to Royalty and rules upon the pretence of a reference to pure quantity. Would not such an interpretation explain the dreadful symbolism of the Empty Crown of Stars? But to return to more salubrious matters: you said, most honoured lady, that the Westrenne Empress is "recognised" by the Elders of the Haiela. I have heard that the Raihira Elders also play a part in determining her political worthiness - that is her mistresship of the Art of Government. How do these two unite? I know I keep asking questions, but you said I was welcome! So I do. |

The exact processes by which a new Empress is chosen are not public matters even in the Motherland; but we know that she is examined by the Wise Maidens of both Haiela and Raihira Estates. In the final "recognition" the Haiela will, of course, take precedence. All eligible Imperial Princesses will have been trained from birth in the Thamic Arts of Rule. This is a very rigorous training, and several will drop out at various stages, at their own request or that of their close families (they may be very young). Not every maid - even an Imperial Princess - is suited to this training and the life it entails. Such Princesses remain Princess by title and social precedence, but forfeit the "active" duties and privileges of the position. They are still qualified - and may be called upon - to perform certain ceremonial and other Imperial functions; but they on the whole they choose, and are permitted, to live a "private life". This means that, of those eligible, all will be trained and have the aptitude to rule, and will also bear the Blood Imperial, the Sun-Blood, in the First Degree. It may be wondered what becomes of the highly-trained Princesses who are not recognised as Empress. In fact their function is very important. Since the recognition and anointing of the Empress is one of the highest Sacred Events in the Motherland, there is never any question of "rivalries" or "jealousies" for the Throne of Thrones. The Empress is "recognised", not "chosen", so there is no question of a "wrong choice". Their Imperial Highnesses, trained from birth to serve and rule the Empire, do precisely that. Many of Her Celestial Majesty's Ministers are chosen from among the Princesses (this will happen over time, because the existing Ministers normally remain in office at the beginning of a Reign). Some will become the Empress's personal Advisers and Emissaries. One will be appointed Grand Duchess of Ladyton when that post falls vacant (the City of Ladyton, as you know, belongs to no nation and is enclosed in its own, very small but important, Grand Duchy). The Imperial Government is not entirely dominated by their Imperial Highnesses. There is room for other Raihira maidens of exceptional ability to take almost any Office other than those of Empress and Grand Duchess of Ladyton, but the Imperial Princesses are the most highly-trained body of maidens in the entire Empire. Their whole lives have been given over to honing and refining the huge Thamic ability already placed in them by the Blood Imperial, and those unsuited to the task have been eliminated along the way. Therefore they are among the most important Thamic resources at the disposal of the Empire. |
