I don't think the arguing factor here is that smoking is bad for you. Smoking IS bad for you. But secondhand smoke being bad for you?? That is a controversy (whether or not you choose to believe it, there IS a controversy). Simply because you have observed it, doesn't make it truth. We cannot base the laws that we must all abide by on simple observation. There must be a real basis, with true empirical data from sound scientific studies to prove that second-hand smoke has negative effects on the body. If there is no data, and no scientifically supported evidence, than you are actually basing laws on the personal opinion of the majority, which in this country counts as dicrimination. When the will of the majority outweighs the rights of the minority (which in this case, is NOT the right to smoke, it is the property rights of resteraunt and bar owners to run their business on their property as they choose) then our freedom is truly at an end. And I'm not talking about our "freedom" to smoke.
Oh and as to your statement of "Well, ok, so yes it is, but crushed hemp plant leaves are what constitue marijuana- and no one denies the ill effect of those "crushed leaves". Stop watching Reefer Madness and taking it as fact. Although that would explain your willingness to accept the secondhand smoke propaganda... |
