The Burns Classic Basketball Tournament
When: Meet at AkagenoAn English School (Kevin`s House) at 5:30PM on Sunday, October 23rd. We will walk over the gym from there. Cost: Not so much but we will need to rent a basketball court. We will share in the cost for gym rental. But it shouldn`t be too expensive--maybe a couple hundred yen each. Usually it is about 300Yen per person. It may be less or a little more. Where: Meet at AkagenoAn English School http://www.eikaiwa1.com Address Iizawa 242-23 Minami Ashigara City, Kanagawa, Japan We will play from 6-8PM at the local Iizawa Community Centre next to the swimming pool (next to Minami Ashigara Kindergarten) on Sunday, October 23rd How to get there? Take the Daiyuzan Line from Odawara Station and get off at the end of the line which is Daiyuzan Station. Leave by the only exit. Walk out to the main road right in front of you and head left down that road. Within five minutes or less you should come to a bridge over a river. Cross the bridge and keep going straight. Anyone, just get a team together and Email us with the names and ages of your team members. Cost to Enter: Not so much. One member from each team must join Basketball Kanagawa which is free. To join you need to log into our site and click join, here is the link: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Basketball_Kanagawa Accommodation: There are many hotels in the area of Odawara, Minami Ashigara, Kaisei, Hakone. Volunteers Needed: We need: A place to play! Can you find us one in the Odawara area? Several are already booked up--Odawara Arena, the Gym across from the old library at Odawara Castle, Minami Ashigara Sports Centre. Do you know of somewhere to play? We will need at least two regulation height hoops. Basketballs needed. Bring yours! Fans needed! Tell your friends. Some fans are coming all the way from North America to watch this tournament! Don`t miss it! We need people to promote the tournament--tell your friends, co-workers and people in the media! Tell everyone! Write about the tournament and post it at your homepage, or the forums your frequent. We need free advertising! It would be nice if this tournament became a local tradition in our area! *I would personally love to see a lot of Japanese play in this tournament and get a chance to meet people from other countries. I encourage Japanese to get a team together, either all Japanese or mixed nationalities and play. It will be a great chance for you to meet people from abroad! *Women can enter too. All women teams are welcome or mixed teams! To Enter: Send an Email with your team name, the members full names and nationalities, their ages. Your team members should either have a team uniform, or atleast wear the same colour shirts when on the court. Bring "indoor shoes" these are shoes that are never worn outdoors. (Japanese gyms are very careful to insure that their gyms are kept sand and stone free.) Bring basketballs, we will need them. Can teams from other parts of Japan or other countries enter? Yes, anyone can enter. We encourage teams from outside Japan to come and see this beautiful part of the world and play basketball!
