Is it all that bad?
Recently, allegations about the priest and people of St Augustine's were posted in the Guest Book anonymously. This is a fairly cowardly thing to do, as the writer, on two occasions, felt unable to identify themselves as anything other than "anonymous". However, we do welcome lively debate and so this Forum has been opened for those who wish to make comment on Parish life! Feel free! However, we would prefer to have a name attached, whether the post be positive or negative. Get writing! |

Disappointed

I used to be a member of St Augs a few years back, but due to family commitments attended a different parish for a while. A few weeks agao, we decided to return to the church. I must say, I was very disappointed by the whole affair. Walking in, the first thing I noticed was the distinct lack of young people and families. A few years ago there was a whole junior church, teenage group and youth club. There was Sunday School offering facilities to young families. The older children helped in the service, carrying torches and assisting with the communion. None of this happened, and the lack of young peoople was appalling - it truly looks as though only the older generation, who have always attended are still there. I would hate to think this was because younger people were made to feel unwelcome. The minister seemed to care more about talking about the latest football score in his sermon than actually preaching. It also seemed to run for a long time, people were getting visibly 'fidgety'. After the service, we decided to join the congregation for tea afterwards, as everyone is invited to do. However, we gave up after 10 minutes of being ignored by those serving, and whispered about by those around us. I guess everything changes, but it's sad to see how this beautiful church and great congregation have visibly gone downhill. My family will not be returning to the church, as I for one have been truly disillusioned by your minister and congregation. |

I'm really sorry you had that experience, Disappointed, and hope you didn't come along the time the urn broke down. That caused a lot of anxious whispering, not to mention one or two dissatisfied customers. Thankfully, most folk were very patient and cheerful about out difficulties. Sincere apologies if you felt badly treated. There have been a lot of new faces at church recently, along with some welcome returning faces. In my experience, you tend to get out of an organisation roughly what you put into it. M.R. |

Thank you for showing an interest in our Church and for your observations. As Christians we need to be able to look at ourselves and reflect upon all that we do in the name of Jesus Christ. We are not perfect; only Jesus Christ is perfect. I pray for you, unfortunately not by name; please pray for me, Vernon. |
