Dart Covers

Just seen an online shop (Cover King) on Ebay selling Dart 18 covers for £99.

Has anyone bought anything from there? Any feedback on the quality would be appreciated.

Thanks

Re: Dart Covers

I bought one of these in the spring. When it arrived it looked a heavy duty cover which was really water proof.

However it didn’t fit the boat that well and by the end of the summer the bows had ripped two holes in each leg of the cover.

Finally the winter storms have proved to be too much for it. It may have been down to me putting it under too much strain, but it now has a serious tear down the main body.

I intend to buy a replacement in the spring, can anyone recommend a quality cover that will last several years?

Re: Dart Covers

We bought our cover from Pinnel & Bax. It was about £300 which is on the pricey side, however this thing is bullet proof, covers the boat to the bottom of the hulls (not just the topsides) and has a 5 year guarantee. We bought the lighter material (cheaper) cover but this didn't last 5 mins, but P&B were good to their word and offered a replacement straight away. We knew we would continue to have issues as the material wasn't up to the job which is why we upgraded. It was worth doing and the cover fits very well. We would happily buy another P&B cover as you get what you pay for. Cheers, Tim.

Re: Dart Covers

Goldfinch have started making covers again and the guy there is really nice to deal with - his name is Adrian and they are really helpful (based in Kent).

Alternatively, Cat Bitz used to sell really good quality covers made by a reliable family operation.

Re: Dart Covers

i bought one of the ebay cover king ones about a year ago

at the time it was £79, i wanted another cover too, and paid £10 postage for the 2 covers, so effectively it has cost £84

so far so good

very slight opening up of the stitching aroung the bow area but i think this is because i towed the boat with the cover on for about 10 miles

fit is acceptable (i've never had a cover yet regardless of cost, that has been spot on) and my view is that if it lasts say 3 years i will then go and buy another one (if they still available !) and still be quids in

The cover king ones are now £99 and allowing for inflation, a £300 posh one will have to last say 7 or 8 years to make it worthwhile spending the extra money
at the outset

Cheers
Simon

Re: Dart Covers

I've just bought an Ebay cover. Seems fine, a better item than the previous laser cover anyway (in my view they are both Chinese imports!!). Doubt it's up to the standard of the £300 brigade, but then I don't see a £300 cover lasting 7 - 8 years as it'll need to to make economic sense.

If you have an old boat, and so long as the tramp is covered, it'll be difficult to go wrong with ebay. If you have a new boat, or an unhealthy attachment to an old one (Chris 316, I was getting worried about you!), well, maybe spend a few more pieces-of-eight!

Pays your money and takes your choice.
