Deadeye Rivetting

Got myself a new deadeye (clip /eye for jib halyard on the mast) from Windsport who were very helpful despite Laser not sending the part out.

Gone to rivet it to the mast but the rivet sits in a recess so the gun can't get far enough down the rivet.

When I work the rivet gun, it just pulls the rivet out. Any tips?

I'm trying to find a metal sleeve that fits over the rivet at the moment...

Re: Deadeye Rivetting

Hi Tom,

What you can do is knock out the centre of another rivet and pass the remainder over the 1st rivet. This should bring it out of the fitting enough to use the riveter!!

Cheers

Re: Deadeye Rivetting

Easy way is to drop a small nut over the stem and use that to pull up on. You sometimes need to do that on the tramp track depending on the rivet gun you are using.
