Junior & Youth Catamaran Introduction Days 2008

This year there will be 7 weekends of catamaran introduction days at various venues across the UK.

On each day a fully qualified cat instructor will take out 6 teams of young sailors and teach them how to sail catas.

A typical day would have the following format:
8:30 Rigging the boats (not compulsory, but help would really be appreciated!)
9:00 Briefing from fully qualified Multi-Hull coach telling the youngsters what the plan is for the day.
9:30 – 10:30 On shore demonstration of rigging, tacking, gybing, spinnaker hoist & recovery and capsize. Each child practises tacking and gybing to maximise their learning on the water
10:30 – 13:00 All 6 boats (3 Hobie Twixxys and 3 Topper Topax 14CX’s kindly supplied by Loday-White and Hobie Europe) are launched. The coach follows all 6 boats around the exercise area giving all boats assistance and tips
13:00 – 13:30 Quick lunch in the clubhouse
13:30 – 14:00 Short briefing about afternoon’s activities. Instruction on trapezing technique.
14:00 – 16:30 Children may swap to sail with other partners and may also swap type of boat sailed, for example from Hobie Twixxy to Topaz 14CX.
There will be a series of exercise involving trapezing.
A series of small friendly races.
16:30 – 17:00 De- briefing from the coach and a prize giving for most improved, best spinnaker hoist & recovery most spectacular capsize (if any), child with the happiest smile and so on.
Prizes supplied by Hobie Europe
17:00 – 18:00 Shower, change and help de-rigging the boats.
