Race Report 14th May
Start: 7pm ish
Wind: All over the place
No of Darts: 4 (could have been 5 but 2 single handers joined up)
Handicap Fleet: 31 Boats
The Start was a crowded affair with all the boats trying to keep the breeze and starting as close to the outer distance mark as possible fetching to the first mark. By the time the first boats reached the mark the cats had pulled out from the pack and went on the run to the leward mark. Sean and Karrie had established a several boat lenghth lead by the leward mark but struggled to catch the Dart 16 flying its genniker. The other 3 darts battled for 2/3/4 with Simon and Connor quite rightly not following the pack to try to make use of the tide but the gusty conditions wernt on there side and left them in a hole more than once. Dart Vader had a great race keeping the experianced guys off their backs. Close racing over a good course in difficault conditions sometimes overlapping for long periods of time.
We were missing 3 regular Darts but this was a good start to the evening series.
Results please excuse the lack of detail
1:) Sean and Karrie
2:) Luke and Tom
3:) Richard & Richard ? (Red and White Dart)
4:) Simon and Conner

Re: Netley Sailing Club
Not much of a race report Luke, you need to get a few facts right, Karri and I pulled well clear of the Dart 16 and were racing the 3 'A' class cats, anyway enjoyed the racing its getting better with more boats out, hopefully were get more on Sunday.

Race Report 18th May
Start: 10am ish
Wind: All over the place
No of Darts: 5
3 Single handed
Well I was asked if I was dislexic after my first report well who knows as long as the positions are in the right place ;-)
The first race had a great reach and allowed Sean and Karrie to lead the pack convincingly from start to finnish. Gusty windshifts made the beat difficault for all boats with little choice in tactics however Tom Parker in only his first ever year of sailing kept pace with the other Darts. He Threatened to overtake Dart Vader several times and leading Simon right up until the end where experiance came into play with the wind shifts.
1st - Sean and Karrrie
2nd - Dart Vader
3rd - Simon (Dont Panic)
4th - Tom Parker
The Second Race saw a change of course with a figure of eight. The winward marks both suffered from massive wind shifts and with 5 Darts on the line 3 pulled away (Sean and Karrie, Dart Vader and Tom Parker) Simon in his first time solo caught a gust and practised his star jump onto the mainsail tecnique which effectivly put him out of the race. Phill and Sarah Lomas kept up the rear enjoying the breeze when it came. Again Tom proved his practicing is paying off and stayed with the two other front runners taking the lead at several points. Close racing until the last lap where Sean and Karrie found a breeze and pulled away.
1st Sean and Karrie
2nd Dart Vader
3rd Tom Parker
4th Phill and Sarah Lomas
5th Simon (DNF)

Nice reports Luke
I particulary like the bit where I lead the Dart fleet for the first leg of the second race where I was bothering the A Class and Inter 20 boys (not for very long though)

Why don't you guys from Netley pop round to Stokes Bay this weekend for our Cat Open. If we have enough Darts (which I expect we will) we can have our own set of results. First start on Saturday is midday.

Re: Netley Sailing Club
The Cat Open at Stokes is only a 2 day event, Saturday and Sunday. So why not compete in both days of the Cat Open, then head to the Folly Sunday afternoon/evening en-route back to Netley.
If you need any kit transporting between Netley and Stokes, I'm happy to help out where I can as I live in Hamble and will be passing.

Re: Netley Sailing Club
The past couple of weeks have seen some very breezy sailing sorry for not posting then but heres from last night.
Date 11/06/08
Wind: 4 gusting 5
The race was a figure of eight with a nice long beat to the first mark.
After rounding the first mark Sean& Karrie went off on a nice reach to the lewward mark followed by Dart Vader, Dont Panic, Richard and Richard and Tom Parker. Sean made what he thought was the leeward mark extremely quickly but by the time Tom Parker rounded the winward mark and looked to be sailing very high it dawned on the other 3 darts they were heading for the wrong mark following Sean like good little sheep. A massive course correction later and the race order had changed to Tom Parker, Sean & Karrie, Dart Vader, Richard and Richard and Dont Panic. It didnt take long for Sean and Karrie to catch Tom and by the end of the second lap Sean and Karrie had taken a leg and a half lead with Richard and Richard, Dont Panic and Dart Vader tussleing for second but by the end of the the race the single handers (Dart Vader and Tom Parker) suffered in the long beat without trapeezes and fell back leaving the results as follows.
1) Sean and Karrie
2) Dont Panic (Simon and Conner)
3) Richard and Richard
4) Dart Vader
5) Tom Parker

Race Report
25/06/08
Wind top end of 5 gusting 6
Well what can I say Sean and Karrie watched Richard and Richard were late for the start then used a laser as a speed bump and the rest of the Dart fleet apart from Dart Vader stayed at home.
The race was a whitewash with dart Vader tripple lapping the handicap fleet enjoying the fresh breeze and taking the race. There were a few religious moments Dart Vader stayed upright.

Re: Netley Sailing Club
What a race, (I was crewing for Luke/Dart Vader) it took 10 minutes (1.25 laps) to catch the back end of the fleet and start lapping them. The rest of the fleet soon followed and we managed to pass everyone two or three times
The Race Officer had to add an extra lap column to the race sheet as it only had 6 and we managed 7! Other boats managed 3
Bloody knackered today mind

Re: Netley Sailing Club
Date 09/07/08
Wind: 5 gusting 6
Darts: 2
Well it was a bit breexy today with gusts recorded at F8 so I will forgive those not wishing to join us this evenining however all those who stayed home may feel a little silly Sean won single handed!!
The race started with Dart Vader weaving through the other boats to make the first mark realising he didnt know where the second one was! Sean sailig 1 up in a lot of wind showed his Tornado form and gave Dart Vader & Crew a fight all the way round until on the lasr lap of a complex course Sean pulled a comfortable lead away. With only 1 slight hicup in difficault conditions Sean had a very well deserved win!
With Sean now leading the handicap series and Dart Vader in second the eveniong series is heading for an excellant last 3 races!

Wind F3
Darts 3 (Single Handed)
Well a misrable evening reduced the turnout still Dart Vader and Parker tried trapeezing single haded whist racing for the first time resulting in mixture of results meaning Sean with his perfected tequnique won comfortably with Parker taking the "let the boat tack over you as you come off the trapeze system" a little to litteraly and was thankful for the early bath. The results were
1st Sean
2nd Dart Vader
3rd Parker

Re: Netley Sailing Club
Well the Dart fleet turned Race crew last night and did our series duty.
It was fun setting a longggggggggggggg dead downwind leg for the mono's giving the race officers the chance to test the binoculars on the beach and the rescue boat crew to top up on the tan.
So no racing for the darts last night just revenge including a few laid marks for the rescue boat lol Sean and karrie heave!
Rhumour has it we had a visitor from stokes sailing at Netley on the weekend you know who you are!

Re: Netley Sailing Club
Just got myself a Dart 18 and was recommended by David Lloyd to join up with you guys! Dawn has kindly found me a space so hope to get my boat round there this weekend. I'm keen to join in with the racing but being new to cats will need a bit of time to get aquainted! Used to have an ISO but could never find crew so thought the Dart would be better. Would appreciate a few pointers in exchange for beer etc.
Hope to meet you all soon. You can't miss me, it's the pink boat
