I like the shows that have been recommended so far. To these, I would add the following: Fiddler on the Roof Zorba The Fantastiks Kiss Me Kate Gypsy Sweeney Todd The Rocky Horror Show Candide Company On the Town La Cage Aux Folles - and anything else by Sondheim, Webber, or Bernstein Or course, someday (in the rather distant future, I assume), it would be wonderful to put on The Producers! |

I have read the postings and offer this email purely from the standpont of a former board member and Southington resident. This email is also offered with all due respect to the postings that I have read. In the past, the board has always considered whether a possible show choice would in any way conflict with the same show being performed in a different theater group. Even after a show had been voted on, rights paid for, there had always been concerns that different theater groups would perform the same exact show simultaneously if not shortly after SCT's dates. In light of SCT's 50th anniversary the board should dig deep into its roots and give Southington residents and residents in surrounding communities a reason to leave the comforts of their cable boxes and DVD players behind and venture into a theater. Variety is the spice of life as the saying goes and perhaps a retrospective of SCT's 50 years will fill empty theater seats. People want to be entertained, SCT certainly wants to entertain the public and has successfully done so with retrospectives in the past with the backing of enthusiastic board members and talented show directors. How many times do you find yourself saying "Remember when..." That remember when could be either an actor remembering their performance during a show or crew member reliving the "shortest set strike ever", or a couple hearing the broadway tune for the first time while they were dating. There are some very ambitious people in Southington currently painting a mural of how Southington used to be...Oxley Drug Store...Showkase movie theater...Popular Restaurant. While these folks are reliving the remember whens on canvas, I hope that the current board will allow its audiences, cast members and board members, past and present, relive the remember whens of SCT on stage and in turn, create new memories. |

I believe that Margo put very wellinto words the feelings of many of us old timers. I would hope that the current board members will take into consideration her thoughts when planning the 2007 musical(s). One way to really get people into the seats is to contact Tom Chute to direct some aspect of the 50th celebration. He has a very long history with SCT and each time he has worked with our group, the profits were admirable! Good luck! ~Flo |

I haven't been to the theater yet, so I'd like to wait before I make suggestions, but I really want to ask about the mural. My father used to manage the Showkase, and I'd like to hear more about this. |

Probably. You had mentioned the mural in your earlier post, and I was interested because my father used to manage the Showkase. |

A group of artists in Southington and got together to recreate downtown as it once was. My aunt and another artist were in charge of painting the Showcase. A few people were reached to remember their recollections of the theater. |

That's interesting. I have a lot of recollections of the theater. I spent a lot of time there. |

Hey everyone! I am new to this forum so I wanted to introduce myself…I am an actress from Southington, and I just found a great new website for musical theatre fans called broadwayspace.com, it’s kinda like myspace but for broadway fans! Check it out!!! www.broadwayspace.com |

I'm looking forward in just a few weeks, December 2007, and coming home to Southington. I'll be around until August, and I'm looking forward to getting back involved. I have to echo the suggestion of The Scarlet Pimpernel, and add Ragtime and Chess. I hope to see you all again soon. Jim |
