Sharon,
You wrote: "I don't really like that detective show that stars Dick Powell. I can't remember the name of it, but he always sings in it and I guess he's supposed to be super cool. He has a rich girlfriend. He's just too smarmy for me."
Sorry Sharon, but I really love Richard Diamond, Private Detective. Dick Powell is really smarmy, but then the shows are really creative. They were written by Blake Edwards, who later wrote and directed all the Pink Panther movies with Peter Sellers. His wit is clearly seen in every show.
The show was the perfect vehicle for Powell who not only sang the songs, but also whistled the show's theme song, "Leave it to Love".
When I first heard the show I thought it was a bit too smarmy as well. However it is now my second most favorite show behind Johnny Dollar (with Bob Bailey).
