You're correct, of course. But as I sat there listening to Guilliani make fools of these people, I had to say something. There are about seven billion people on the planet. We represent a mere 300 million and about half of that are ready to enter the 21st century. So maybe, MAYBE, we'll have enough votes to elect Obama. But even if he does win, the Republicn Party, like a disease that won't go away, will begin undermining the Democrats from say one. They sure do hate having their gravy train derailed. War and oil are very profitable.
Thankfully, as you pointed out, the ignorance holding back humanity is isolated mostly in America and in "radical" Islam. So the planet as a whole is making strides foward, not in place or backwards.
Empires come and go makng, when they go down, about as big a hole in human mind's evolution as we make by pulling our finger out of a glass of water. It is but a matter of time before the American Empire goes the same route. Evolution towards a one Earth, one humanity global mindset is inexorable. A nation or individual can lead, follow, get out of the way, or be ground under. America is dangerously close to the last option. This upcoming election will serve as an indiator as to which of the choices America will choose. We'll see!
I'm convinced that if McCain is elected, signifying to the rest of humanity approval by Americans of our aggression, etc., that will be the straw that broke the camel's back and the rest of the world will write us off and voila, the end of another Empire. This is what caused the fall of the Soviet Union.
But then, compared to infinity, none of it is even a snap of the fingers. Poor America. They just cannot get over themselves. Such sluggish BiPeds. America, noble experiment. Looks like we jst weren't up to it. We've tried to hide our rust by painting over it. Well, as rust is wont to do, it eventually works its way to the surface. This is what results from refusing to admit the rust is there...not scraping it off. I wonder who will be the next Empire? |
