The fairly new phenomenon of facebook has brought back many memories and has re-connected many old friends. I wanted to mention that we had started a Hawthorne Elementary group and as pictures were posted and memories shared, the news of Derek's passing came up. To some it was still a surprise... but we set up an unofficial memorial for him on our little facebook group page and linked to this site. We all remember Derek (even those that left BC right after Hawthorne Elm like myself) and we think of him fondly and smile at his little "skater-boy" pictures. I actually sort of dated him in grade 7... whatever dating is at that age... and he was a sweetheart. Even though we never kept in touch, he never left my memories.
