My dad, Lt. J.G. P. Ayres, was the navy Doc aboard LST-761. He led the first group of Corpsmen onto Iwo at 5 hours after H-hour on D-day, Feb. 19th, 1945. I have learned most of what I know of his service by reading "Across the Reef: The Amphibious Tracked Vehicle at War," by Victor J. Croizat. According to that book, Dad and his 10 or 11 men treated all injured Marines in the area for the first five days of battle until back-up arrived.
I am interested in finding out if any survivors remember serving with Dad, or being treated by him and/or his crew.
