Am looking for info on allan Schmidl, my brother who passed in May 2010 at 59 years old. He never talked about his service in nam and records have no specifics. He was there from June 1971 to Mar 1972 in the north (Hue and DMZ I think). He was in Army 359th Avn Det and 321st Avn Det. Last few years suffered from flashbacks. Doing family history and he was only member who served in nam under fire. But we really want to know why we lost him, what he experienced. It broke our hearts. Email any info to me at greg_schmidl@yahoo.com. And if you know other boards or better ones for this please post it there.
Sorry about your brother. This is the best board available for info. I was in Nam 69-70. I didnt know your brother but dont give up someone on this board may. Good Luck.
Not an easy task to find direct information about, online. However, I would like to suggest that you try to contact the webmaster of the 1st Avn Bde website, through following link:
I beleive he/webmaster of above website, may be able to assist you further. This, since the Avn-Det's you listed, at least for certain periods, were a part of/within the 1st Avn Bde ( = 1st Aviation Brigade). The website itself does not display much direct info regarding the 321st and 359th Avn Det's, but could be the webmaster has more direct and/or indirect assisting information for you, through a direct contect between the 2 of you? What little I could find in website, is for example as below:
Unit: 321st ASD
Location: Quang Tri
Date Deployed: 8/10/68
Unit: 359th ASD
Location: Camp Evans
Date Deployed: 5/06/68

Note by A.B:
The 321st Avn Det evidently worked with 48th AHC ( http://www.48ahc.org ) from 1972 (month unknown) to 1973 (month unknown). Allthough timeframe is (by atleast the listed main timeframe) after your brothers service in the 321st Avn Det, it may yet still perhaps be a good idea to also contact the webmaster of the 48th AHC-website. One never knows what he may be able to share with you, directly or indirectly through other sources/contacts, which will be helpfull to you.

Units that were part of the 1st Aviation Brigade 11th CAG 1972 - 1973:
Headquarters and Headquarters Company – DaNang
321st Aviation Detachment
519th Medical Detachment
11th Pathfinders Detachment
48th Assault Helicopter Company
I whish I could have been of more direct help to you. But atleast the above will point you in a direction, where you may have a chanse to retain more help, as the 1st Avn Bde was "parent-unit" for your brothers 2 Avn Det's.
