...I'm not sure I heard this right....while watching the political news today...(I really need to stop because it's making me crazy)....but anyway, a 30-something young reporter/commentator/talking head/whatever she is was being asked a question about the candidates....and she began her answer..."I mean"...and then continued explaining her thoughts....mingling in two "you know"...and unbelievably three "like"...all in the first couple of sentences......I couldn't believe it....this is supposedly an educated person....college/university educated for cryin' out loud....she sounded like a junior high school student who couldn't form a correct English sentence...and I get the feeling there are millions more of them out there...and they vote...scares the hell outta me....lefty
Yeah, you're right. Seems like the older I get the more I run across those who are considerably less intelligent than is normal. What gets me is their use of the English language although I must admit sometimes I also see it here.
The use of the contraction of you are (you're) as your. Your is a personal pronoun signifying ownership. Likewise there for their. There is a place or location, their again tags ownership. There are more examples but why pick on them?
I'm not a scholar and disliked Engish in high school. I always figure that those who use "you know" so often are maybe a tad illerate. Some of the more popular sports figures use that phrase quite often.
