I get so caught up with being a Viet Nam veteran that I tend to forget I also served in Germany from Jan 1959 to Jan 1961. I was at Kaiserslautern, Kleber Kaserne. I understand it is no longer a military post but I have some fond memories of being there. I loved my duty there more so than in Nam
We were there when Nikita Kruschev told us to get out of Berlin or pay the price, in 1959. We went on alert that day but nothing happened. I was in a dump truck company, 555 Engineer Co.(DT).
Good grief, I was a young squirt at 21 years of age, away from mom and dad and on my own. Strangely enough I got married just 4 months after coming home. I'll always remember my time in Germany tho. Love to go back for a visit but probably never will.
Is always good to have old memories. Your post brought me back a few moons.
We can't go back to the past.....We can remember....but thats it.
The past is gone. All we have is today......and tomorrow....well...there always
be a tomorrow..and we might not be there to see.
I lost 35 years of my life after nam.....Never to see again.
PS I'm not against your post...I just rambling on my own.
It Don't Mean Nuttin

I too was just ramblin on. Not much else to do sitting alone here in my room with my dogs. They don't say much but they are good listeners. Then too I don't really say all that much. Who's to listen?
Course tho it does make one feel melancholy. I was thinking of my school years, I went to school in the 40's and 50's. The second war ended when I was 7,Korea started when I was 13 so I missed out on those but I did make Viet Nam.
So yeah, jut like now. Just ramblin on. Thanks for listening. Later.
....German beer and women.....it was a good time to be young....
...I was in the 463rd MP Co. at Reese Kaserne, Augsburg, Germany....fall of '66 to the spring of '68.........geez, was that really fifty years ago?....lefty
