Anniversary date

Hey, fellow veterans!

Today is kinda like an anniversary day for me. It was 58 years ago on the 17th of September, 1958 that I took an oath and became a member of the United States Army. I took all my training; Basic and AIT at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. Right after AIT I got orders for Germany where I spent 2 great years driving a 5 ton dump truck. I was trained to be a heavy equipment mechanic but guess they needed a driver so I became one.

Came back home in 1961and got stationed at Ft.Carson, Colorado where I married the one girl I cared for. And now it's been 55 years ago. I hope I'm not boring anyone.

I re-enlisted in Jan 1964, went to Ft. Dix, NJ and from there to Cam Rahn Bay, South Viet Nam. I left out a lot of details but I didn't want to bore everyone. I'm just a 78 year old man remembering my past. We all have memories and sometimes we like to look back on them and remember how it was when we were younger.

Oh well, nuff said. Never forget the past but look to the future.

Till later.

Re: Anniversary date

Memories are good Old Fat, You are 7 years ahead of me.
I remember "Lost in the Woods"(Fort Leonard Wood) trained there for EOD.
Sent to "Disneyland"(Vietnam). After my tour there they give me permanent
party at Fort Dix NJ. My first son was born there in MCGuire Air Force
next door to Dix.....Yep.yep memories keeps a soul alive.

Re: Anniversary date

Hey Eagle!

Kinda makes me feela lot older now. Have you noticed as we grow older that those who we served with aren't getting any younger either? When I think about it we were pulling out of Nam in 1973. That was 43 years ago, now that makes me feel older again. But we can't stop the progression of time, can we?

Oh well, just something else to remind us all of where we've been and what it was we did, whether good or bad.

Well nuff said. Have a great future Eagle and as my uncle used to say, "don't take any wooden nickels". Never did fully understand that. The mint didn't make wwoden nickels that I'm aware of.

Till later.

Re: Anniversary date

You Bet, Brother.
Cherokee Prayer Blessing

May the Warm Winds of Heaven
Blow softly upon your house.
May the Great Spirit
Bless all who enter there.
May your Mocassins
Make happy tracks
in many snows,
and may the Rainbow
Always touch your shoulder.

That is so cool Eagle. Thank you for posting it. Would it be okay if I were to copy it and use it with my friends?
