Re: Steering idler arm wanted

Well, one didn't materialise, so it was revert to plan C, plan B being to bodge it again.

Plan C involved removing the idler arm and getting the job done properly. A local engineering firm, Airlec of Rye, suppliers of bus electrics and air parts for buses, looked at the job and ummed and aahed.

They decided to machine out the old worn hole and make a top hat shaped bush to fit into said hole, with a new taper to fit the almost new pin i had in stock. This to their credit took a couple of days, and took me about 4 hours to re-fit.

If anyone else has to do this on a Scania bus, you'll have to remove the first exhaust flex under the engine or you won't be able to get the track rod back on. You'll also have to put the ball joints back in before finally fitting the idler arm to the shaft. Job done and RM1398 will soon be back touring the world with EF Language School with steering that is very precise and brakes that work! Oh, and a new exhaust!
