MD to the rescue

I chanced upon this bizarre sight on Oct 29th 1981. RM 1128 had failed opposite the front of Peckham Garage and MD 91 is about to drag it round to the back yard of the garage! But it was already starting to happen as I arrived giving me little time to react - or find somewhere better and safer to stand.

Hitched up and waiting for a gap in the traffic

Indicators on and beginning to move....

I don`t think there were any other bus types on LT at that time with towing facility built in.

A while back I posted a picture of RM 1128 cannibalized in Bexleyheath Garage - taken in 1978. The suggestion was that in being returned to service this RM was probably the last one in normal circumstances (excluding Show Buses) to carry gold fleet names and stock numbers. I reckon it was the last one by far having survived so long into 1981.
