Progress report on RM7

Progress report on RM7

It’s going to be a long haul but, so far, body panels changed where necessary. Rebuilt the rear end, moved rear off side indicator to the early position. Rebuilt the front end, and cleaned up the cab while I was at it.

Fitted a reconditioned gearbox, rebuilt by Queensbridge, also fitted a new compressor, the quill drive and plessey pump looked ok. Engine now runs and sounds alright, bus would not move, the air would not build up, drained about a cup full of water out of the air tank, and replaced the unloader valve. Air now builds up and all gears seem to be there, but no movement (brakes seized)

I have stripped out the front and rear brakes and overhauled them, it needed new seals in the rear.
Today, bus started, all gears worked, so I took it for a run up the farm track, excellent, it drove fine, brakes seem ok, but must check the fluid flywheel.

I have it booked in for a respray at Averys in Leighton Buzzard at the end of the month, I’ll be lucky!!

Attached a couple of photos.
I have booked in RM7 and BEA1 for Finsbury Park

Regards

Rob

Ps struggling with the photos at the mo, so added links, I think!!

Re: Progress report on RM7

It's great to see this motor saved after it was thrown away on the scrapheap.

I know many of my old Poplar colleagues would be pleased to know that good machines had been saved.

For me it's still the best looking bus of the lot.

Well done.

Regards.

Excellent stuff Rob.

A favourite bus regularly ridden on from many years ago when still at school.

RM 7 wasn't scrapped John, it was bought from LT by John Hurley. Are you thinking of RM 13 that Rob is restoring?

My bus number (if any): RTL 960, RMC 1458, RM 1585 and several RTs

Re: Progress report on RM7

Hi Brian,

I guess i have my numbers mixed up there, i was sure it had been a scrapper.

I do admire the efforts you all make to keep these machines going. I thought it was a great shame to see good looking buses chucked away, and not wanted.

Just my own personal view.

Good luck all.
