Alternators....most reliable/fixable/available

Having survived the Okey cokey of engine swapping, I've tracked down the irritating, and potentially terminal, rattley grinding noise to the alternator. A decision needs to be made soonerrather than lalater. Discussion, please.....

Re: Alternators....most reliable/fixable/available

Get it rebuilt, usual cost about £350, otherwise it's bound to fail on the road if it's rustling and grinding.

Try these. I have been to their workshops and they specialise (they tell me) in older vehicle parts.

Re: Alternators....most reliable/fixable/available

Thanks for the advice....
On the basis of "working with what you've got", I've discovered another CAV which is less rattley, but with a broken cage. Our local wizard is going to rebuild them, which will be nice if that's as successful as last year's starter motors.....
