Re-roof of RM238

Hi Chris

I was wondering if you had any photos of RM238's re-roof as to the best of my knowledge, your bus is the first open top Routemaster to regain closed top status again. I was impressed by the professional job carried out and I'm sure George Watson would also appreciate you sending him any photos for issue 99 of the Routemaster Association magazine?

My bus number (if any): RM967 (Driver & Restoration Consultant, bus owned by Tom Ireland)

Re: Re-roof of RM238

I don't know about it being the first, but 357 regained its roof about seven years ago. Its original roof is supposedly on RMC 1462.

Re: Re-roof of RM238

The roof on RMC1462 may well have come from that bus. 1462 lost its roof in Latchmere Road in about summer 2000; we have a "spare" semi-derelict RM in Watford and District livery and we used to roof off that to get 1462 back on the road.

My bus number (if any): RML2532

Who re-roofed RM238?

The re-roofing of RM238 was project-managed and carried out by a regular contributor to this forum who also sourced all the parts, some of which were from scrap buses and some were fabricated from drawings or patterns. I will leave it to this person to identify himself.

My bus number (if any): RMs 238, 471. 2213 & GS17

Re: Who re-roofed RM238?

Routemaster Restoration Ltd, as we call ourselves these days, undertook all the structural work, and we also reinstated the open platform.
It was a very interesting project
So, if you want a roof taking off, or want a roof putting on give us a call
We also carry out all other aspects of work on Routemasters

As most people know we are based near Huntingdon, and hold a large amount of Routemaster spare parts

Cheers
