An RM running day in Sheffield

No, it`s not one that`s about to happen! This particular one was on Saturday Sept 11th 1983 and I can`t actually recall what the purpose of it was. Based at South Yorkshire Transport Greenland Road Garage, we operated a fairly high frequency service to the city centre from about 10am to 5pm having travelled up overnight in convoy with the two RM`s shown here plus two others which I think were RM 8 and RM 951. In other words, four `showbuses` which LT obviously sanctioned to attend whatever the event was about. I took 1738 which was a Leyland and sounded good on the steep inclines of the route within Sheffield. With RM`s being such a novelty then so far from home, we carried full loads for most of the day and were photographed so many times that there must be other pictures somewhere..........
I wish I`d taken more but was too busy driving all day! We then travelled home the next morning.
