Posed on Putney Heath

Thirty one years ago today was the last day in service for RM 1563. We had a few fun years with it to rallies and events - initially in standard livery and from early 1981 in `1960`s livery`. On May 18 1982 we posed the bus on Putney Heath for this picture.

The rear wheel `dustbin lids` were taken off for the bus to run in normal service as this had been an official LT dictate to remove them but apart from that it went out on the 9`s looking as it does in the picture. Quite how we got away with keeping the small n/s mirror on the bus in normal service I really don`t know. It was poor in comparison to the usual mirrors of the 1980`s. The field of vision wasn`t great - especially coming out of the old Butterwick bus station at Hammersmith. And even now, reversing the bus into its parking bay in a big dark shed isn`t easy when that tiny mirror is of very little help.
