MOT - Speedo

Hi all,

My bus has its MOT soon and been going through the test manual for class 5 to check stuff, and just noticed that it says having non working Speedo is a fail. My bus last year when MOTed it did not have working speedo and passed, has this changed or is there a exception not in the manual.

Since getting her on the road, i have been using 2 GPS devices for speed, one as sat nav so i know where to go that clearly displays the speed. I also have a old Smart phone that's sole use is for this and wired to the bus's power supply that displays in huge writing the speed or i can swap it to a dial. is this acceptable or do I need to get the original one working that has not worked in year?

My bus number (if any): RMF2771

Re: MOT - Speedo

My bus passed a class 6 MOT recently with the speedo not working!

I have since had a taco fitted, but at the time of the MOT, like you, I was using a sat nav as a speedo.

Re: MOT - Speedo

How would a tester know it's not working? They don't drive the bus around to check, but do make sure the light works!
