Vacancies - PCV Drivers (Part-Time) - York

Ghost Bus Tours operate a tourism business with our lovely old Routemasters in various UK cities, and we are looking for currently qualified PCV Drivers who are Routemaster enthusiasts, to join our York operation, working on a part-time basis. We are looking for people who can be reasonably flexible about shifts. If interested, please email us at recruitment@grandimperial.co.uk, ideally submitting your CV, and we will get back to you with further information.

SPAM

Commercial advert again. Try the local paper, but they don't offer freebies to anyone let alone posh Agencies.

Re: Vacancies - PCV Drivers (Part-Time) - York

I don't see quite what is wrong with this , Spam or not.

This site is patronised by the kind of people who have an interest in Routemasters. Some may be drivers or know of Routemaster familiar/experienced drivers who may be looking for work.

Ghost bus tours are a well run business and now well established, not some dodgy outfit of chancers.
There would be cries of foul if the work was not offered to those with associations to Routemasters.

Just the same as if a consignment of spares were offered direct to a scrapman rather than to specialist spares stockists or preservation groups.

In any case there are at least 6 regular contributors who run Routemaster/ Bus based businesses, all of whom offer help and advice, but often benefit from gaining business as a consequence.

I see nothing wrong with that either. After all, the site also flushes out the cowboys pretty quick if they appear.

If I were hiring ( and I do ) I want competent staff who care about the job they do and the vehicles they work with and, in the case of RMs, a degree of understanding of how they work and how best to operate them. Plus a depth of resources, so when uncertain, rather than not ask, to always check and not simply bodge something.

Sometimes it might be a little obvious, naive or irritating but better people like Matt ask a question than press on and make what could be a mistake with consequences.

And this is not a bad site to find such people. Better than via an agency.

Re: Vacancies - PCV Drivers (Part-Time) - York

Roy,

I appreciate your frankness, but perhaps I need to explain our rationale behind our advert on this Forum.

First of all, we are not an agency (posh or otherwise). We operate Ghost Bus Tours in Edinburgh, London, and York, with the 6 Routemaster buses that we own and are responsible for in terms of their operation and maintenance. It is a commercial business, but at its heart lies the fact that as well as enjoying our unique tourism experience, our passengers get to enjoy a trip on a well maintained and properly operated 50 year old Routemaster doing what it was designed and built to do.

In our search for staff, be it drivers or Transport Managers, we do use conventional job-sites, but we also recognise that our operation truly benefits from people who not only have the requisite experience and are appropriately qualified, but also share our passion for Routemasters. That leads us to the rationale behind also placing the advert within this Forum, and we certainly hope that the opportunities we offer may just be of interest to some of your fellow Forum members.
