Another conundrum

Referring to the first week of January 1962 one suburban route (no1) was curtailed from its original terminus, with the withdrawn section of route replaced by a different class of bus. The Withdrawn terminus section of route was served by an extension to a route (no2) which had only been in operation for a few weeks.

Both routes were the subject of many subsequent alterations. Both route NUMBERS are still in existence. The curtailed route (no1) still operates over roughly the same ground having alternated between bus classes over the years. The replacement (no2) was shortlived in that form, as was its later reincarnation. The modern number (no2) serves a totally different part of London, but still on the same side of the river.

The second (replacement) route (no2) is now covered by another number (no3). This route (no3) terminated at two particularly famous locations.

So What are the 3 route numbers and the deleted terminus?

The information is on the websites an enthusiast would peruse.

The only clue: Significant numbers of enthusiasts should be grateful to ********* and have had a chance.
