Whistling Exhaust!

So my AV760 Engined Routemaster has developed a whistle in the exhaust!

There are no holes in my exhaust that i can find after 6 hours under the bus Friday, and the MOT tester couldn't find any either on Saturday (She passed with one advisory - minor engine oil leak).

So what could be causing this whistle?

The whistle is coming directly from the tail end of the pipe and is not present at tick over.
It has a very tuneful tone to it on the rev down after accelerating.

it started to whistle slightly on the way back from brooklands last month.
2 weeks ago it reached its current note and hasn't changed since .

It Honestly sounds like someone has stuck a whistle on the end of the exhaust.

My bus number (if any): RMF2771

Re: Whistling Exhaust!

Could be birds or vermin dragged something up it and it has lodged itself across the pipe internally or part of the silencer baffle broken away - best remove from silencer and flush through with water to eliminate ?

My bus number (if any): RML 2747

Re: Whistling Exhaust!

barn is pretty clean no birds or vermin seen ever or traces off, but i was thinking maybe it is issue with silencer.

I think i'm going to start at the back and take the exhaust off section by section, till it stops.

Re: Whistling Exhaust!

The noise probably originates in the silencer from carbon build up or internal disintegration if there are definitely no leaks. Valve events are another possibility.

Re: Whistling Exhaust!

I'd go with what roy says, silencer disintegration. They're still available to order and I think I have a new one on the shelf if that's any help.
