"Crumpled Red Accordion"

A new film apparently contains (to use a BBC expression) "scenes which some viewers may find upsetting". According to Empire magazine, a "12 ton" (good start..) Routemaster has been destroyed at Longcross for the delectation of discerning cinema audiences for a new film called 'Stratton'. It seems a cannon-like device was used to shoot a pole into the ground under the speeding bus, causing it to flip and end up "like a giant red crumpled accordion".. Of course, from past experience, it may not have been a Routemaster (let's hope not) but some other red 'decker'...

Re: "Crumpled Red Accordion"

I remember the RM on the N97 that was hit in the side at the junction of Lillie Road and Fulham Palace Road in the early 1970s by an 8 wheel tanker. The tanker lost. The bus was shall we say dented but certainly not like an accordion. Following some TLC it went back into service.

Re: "Crumpled Red Accordion"

I suspect the accordion comment was a bit of journalistic licence Roy but not a nice ending for one of our beloved buses. Don't suppose anyone will think about saving usable spares...

Re: "Crumpled Red Accordion"

The RM involved (304) became the first collision write off as the damage was so severe.

Patrick isn't quite my neighbour, I moved from New Romney to Aldington a few years ago. :) He's welcome to come round and see the bus fleet if he's in the area.
