Hi Mark,

Yes, definitely something stuck on later in life I believe.

I was at Upton Park Garage from 1973 to 1980 where RML2760 was and conducted and drove it every now and then. There was no particular sentiment attached to the bus at that point, really it was just another bus, just the same as all the others. Later in life Show Buses started to appear and people started to become aware of 2760's significance and it did start to get a little more attention than the others but I honestly don't recall any signage going up on board. I know times change but in those days I don't think the majority of people would have been the least bit interested.

Thank you for the 2 responses so far in what i think is an interesting topic? Indeed the RMC were Green Line and the RML's were London Country as you say, thank you for the correction Brian. I took a photo of 2760 the other week at the Brooklands Motor Museum site which shows the signage in question on 2760, however not sure how to download this photo onto this forum, (tried the usual 'copy n paste' method) As i mentioned i know the green buses were worked hard and not necessarily cherished like the red ones were in latter years. Just curious, i believe Peter might add something similiar to the platform once completed. Regards Mk

Whatever is in RML 2760 is a very late addition, probably from it's sporadic use one the H15 where some posters and adornments were added.

Certainly it was treated no different to any other member of the fleet. When at Hanwell on the 1970s it was just as dirty as the rest, in fact 882 was the tidiest of the allocation then!

RT 4825, RTL 1631 RTW 500 etc etc never received any special treatment, only GB plated buses had any form of recognition and that stopped in the late 60s...
RML 2760 was acquired by Hanwell from Chalk Farm via a repaint in 1970, it left Hanwell for Aldenham January 1975 never to return.
All its later "normal" service life was spent at Upton Park.
Stagecoach East London recognised its "significance" in 1993 by repainting it into its original as delivered livery, (and refitting another AEC engine) and by not refurbishing it, making it in effect a Showbus some 10 years after they disappeared!.

I would suggest that it was adopted as a Showbus much earlier than 1993 as firstly, like RML903, it was not part of the re-engining programme in the late 1980's, and secondly it was rallied in the early 1980's when the showbus era was in full swing.

RML 2760 was certainly being taken to rallies in the early 1980`s as Andrew suggests.
Unfortunately it`s at the far end of this line up at Cobham Bus Museum on 12 April 1981 so the registration number is barely readable but it really is 2760.



The others are RM`s 8, 1250, 1563 and 737.
