London Bus Day, Manchester, Sunday 20th April

Just a reminder that the third annual London Bus Day at the Manchester Museum of Transport, Boyle Street, Cheetham Hill, Manchester M8 is being held on Sunday 20th April, and that all types of former London bus are welcome.

As part of the event, the Museum is also staging a re-creation of a scene from Mortlake Garage, with between a dozen and fifteen Routemasters being parked-up within the Museum building during the day so that photographers can capture some realistic images. The buses will be supplied with dummy route 9 blinds on the day, and any RMLs will be parked in such a way that their extra length does not show (as Mortlake didn't operate RMLs) - we may also be distrubuting a few false numberplates to help with the illusion. This specific part of the event will primarliy be open to red buses in a presentable external condition. The photoshoot was originally to have been staged on the Saturday evening, but has now been built-into the Sunday event as some entrants were reluctant to attend on two successive days due to hotel costs.

A limited number of spaces for secure overnight bus accommodation will be available at the Museum, by prior arrangement.

All details of the event are available from the Manchester Museum of Transport website, but if in difficulty, please email me at david.throwerwarrington@ntlworld.com and I will pass the messages on to the Museum.

Needless to say, any London bus enthusiast is very welcome to attend the event - it's not just exclusive to vehicle owners. And vehicle entries are open to any London bus - not just Routemasters, though a very good selection of the latter is expected.
