London Transport Rolls Royce, fleet number DL83

London Transport operated three Rolls Royce powered units with Wilson Self Changing Gearboxes from 1968 to 1989. I took a picture of one of them today as an imminent repaint means it it will soon lose its London Transport Livery. Click Return to Website above for more information.

My bus number (if any): RM471 and RM2213

Re: London Transport Rolls Royce, fleet number DL83

I used to see this daily in the early 80's when I worked at Lillie Bridge (LB) , during my Stores Audit days. I thought that it was yellow then like the engineer's trains. It used to run up and down right outside the P-Way workshops and Main Stores on non electrified lines where wagons were loaded up with cable drums etc. It then took the wagons over the yard to make up into Engineers trains for the night work. I don't think it ever left LB as it could not be used on the tube, although diesel engines were used on the Jubilee line extension works in the tunnel sections.

My bus number (if any): RTL 960 RML 2667 and an RMC
