LT70 summer uniform available now

LT 70 Summer Dust Jackets for Central and Country Buses and Coaches in Men’s, Women’s and Children’s sizes are now available for sale

It’s taken a while to get this all organised and now it’s all systems go for those who wish to buy them.

‘I have thoroughly examined and compared the first two production LT70 jackets, one Grey (CRS) and the other Green (CB&C), they are 100% exactly the same as the originals and I am very pleased with the result so far of the first stage of this venture to provide authentic LT heritage uniform Claire

THE DETAIL INFORMATION
Two Organisations are involved, Ordering and deposits are to SAFEWEAR of Plymouth, Devon and the Manufacture, final invoicing and dispatch are by RLG (Heritage Uniforms) also of Devon. All the uniforms are made ‘in house’ on a made to measure basis by RLG from British sourced materials by Safewear.

Safewear have their factory in Plymouth and their main business is the supply of all types of modern work wear for today’s Industry. Since the purchase of SW Uniforms nearly 20 years ago, Safewear has developed an expertise in the making of heritage railway uniforms for the UK’s preserved railways and this move into heritage bus uniform is a natural progression of this specialised part of their business.

RLG are a specialised bespoke and made to measure tailoring company situated near Totnes in Devon and their business centres around the ‘one off’ and ‘small quantity’ manufacture of garments as diverse as hand sewn couture ball gowns right through to our bus uniform jackets all of which are made to a very high quality and standard.

There are six different types of jacket available for the 1970’s uniform, which is coded, LT70, and these are:

LT70 GY M Grey jacket, Men’s for Central buses (Red buses)

LT70 GY W Grey jacket, Women’s for Central buses (Red buses)

LT70 GY C Grey jacket, Child’s for Central buses (Red buses)

LT70 GR M Green jacket, Men’s for Country buses & Coaches (Green buses)

LT70 GR W Green jacket, Women’s for Country buses & Coaches (Green buses)

LT70 GR C Green jacket, Child’s for Country buses & Coaches (Green buses)

The LT70 uniform is either plain grey or plain green and is suitable for all ex LT buses and coaches where the operating era is set in the late 60’s, 70’s or early 80’s for RT/RF/RLH, all types of RM and XA/XF/SM/MB/DMS/BL/LS/T/M/L (Please note LCBS uniform style changed to the National Bus style in 1973 so LT uniform styles would probably be gone from LCBS by 1975/6ish)

To order your jacket please telephone Safewear (Mike or John) on 01752 408694 or email Safewear at: safewearsw@aol.com or you can write if you prefer.

Some further points:

The jackets and coats will come WITHOUT buttons. The LT70 uniform should have black plastic buttons but these are no longer available and are far too expensive to have made in small quantities (Less than 10,000 off). The LT60 uniform should have silver (Chrome) metal buttons and the ELTS has a plentiful supply of these for everyone that purchases either the LT70 or LT60 uniforms.

Because all the heritage uniform is ‘Made to measure’ it is also possible to supply smaller sizes for children and young people should they be required, but unfortunately as the same amount of work is needed to make each jacket irrespective of size the price will be the same. The material cost is only a fraction of the high labour cost involved.

Washing. These uniforms are made of the same cotton materials as used in the originals and therefore the same problems of the past are very much with us today. When first washed the colour WILL ‘run’ so don’t wash them with anything else except a jacket of the same colour. It usually takes 2 or 3 washes to be rid of the excess dye colour. Don’t use a hot wash because the uniform WILL shrink if you do, A cool wash and spin and then iron DAMP and put the jacket on a hanger to finish dry. With each wash the colour will fade, very noticeable at first but becoming less so with subsequent washing. ALWAYS REMOVE YOUR BUTTONS BADGES ETC. BEFORE WASHING AND IRONING.

The LT60 uniform is not yet ready but will be available soon.

Re: LT70 summer uniform available now

Thanks Claire. You've obviously done a lot of work on this and I'm sure many people will be very grateful and want to order them. I wonder if you have a detailed photo or description of the black plastic buttons so that I can source something similar for the dust jackets I am ordering.

Re: LT70 summer uniform available now

Hi Chris

When the grey uniform dust jackets were first issued we all swapped the black plastic buttons for the old style chrome ones. If you want to do this too once your jackets are on their way to you let me know and I can supply you with nice shiny chrome LT buttons for them.

Regards

Claire
