Oil

Does anyone have any advice about the correct oil to use on an AV590 engine. Some advocate the use of a straight 30, others say a good multi-grade, including the Routemaster maintainence manual! I'm sure there are pros and cons for either but comments would be most welcome.

I'd also welcome any advice on the typical oil consumption that might be expected from an AV590, since expectations do tend to vary.

My bus number (if any): RM1699 - Eastbourne Regent V 69

Re: Oil

The AECs that I have looked after for friends have been serviced using Castrol Diesel Magnatec for commercial vehicles plus 3 cans of diesel molyslip.

We've been doing it for around 9 years and neither have any smoke or running problems.

This is not the recommended practice but our engineer has 40 years diesel engine experience and is happy with the castrol product.

Re: Oil

Any good quality multi-grade diesel oil is suitable. The straight 30 grade oil should be used in the fluid flywheel.
