Midoztouch Discussion Forum

SUGGESTIONS & GUIDELINES FOR USE IN DISCUSSION FORUM

If you want to upload an album or songs to this section of the site, please ensure that it's not already on a physically available CD or one that's slated for future release on CD. By that we mean the actual Disc with artwork and packaging which you can physically hold in your hands.

To check on that availability, most often but not always on independent labels, the best sources  are reputable music traders like JB Hi Fi, Sydney's Red Eye Records & Timewarp's mail order division and for major label releases only, Sanity. Also check an artist's or a record label's online website ie Aztec Music, Raven or Canetoad Records. If you're still unsure then please ASK as someone is sure to know.

The minimum bitrate to upload at is 256kbps but must be 320 if ripping the music yourself.  Lower bit rates may only be accepted if there truly is no other option ie you are a 2nd or 3rd party . Many would disagree, but it's sometimes better to have something of extreme rarity in poor quality than not at all. But again ask if someone has a better rip before uploading your inferior one.

Artwork is highly desired but not a pre-requisite when uploading as someone in the group may be able to provide it later if you can't e.g. you have no scanner. However in all cases when posting an album in the discussion forum, please let us know if the CD art is included or not. If it is then is it

(a) the full artwork CD ready ie front & back cover scans, any gatefold inserts and tray insert. For best results we recommend scanning all 4 corners of L.P. covers before stitching so all information on the cover is available.
(b) just front & back only with no tray insert
(c) or just front cover scan only. The latter is to be discouraged completely unless you intend providing the back scan later. In which case wait till then & upload both.

ALWAYS: If providing art, please also list it as A SEPARATE LINK even if it is included with the main music file. This is so that others who only need the art don't have to download 80-100 mg of music they already own to get it.

Lastly, we appreciate that some here do have difficulty in stitching the scans together, so it is initially acceptable to upload unstitched scans. Someone may help & do the job for you, uploading these at a later stage. However it is strongly suggested that you keep practicing your own skills .

PLEASE LIST ALL YOUTUBE/VIDEO LINKS UNDER THIS THREAD

Micko has suggested a single thread for all postings of video links for Aussie artists covered by this forum (that is, up to the eighties).

Accordingly, I thought I would kick it off with some shameless promotion of my YouTube Channel (mcphert1) which includes slideshow videos I have made for songs which don't have videos available. I include background to the song and artist under 'more info' and aim to generate interest in the artists. I have listed below videos I have done for Australian artists pre 1990:

Blue Bay Blues by Richard Clapton
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qa69cTASBE0&feature=channel_page

Flash in my Head by Daddy Cool
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0TSlIUH0kUc&feature=channel_page

Sad Dark Eyes by the Loved Ones
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RDrOPAgLLn8&feature=channel_page

Exit Stage Right by Ronnie Burns

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vj6zon1h77g&feature=channel_page

Wars or Hands of Time by the Masters Apprentices
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NXzOU9n1vJw&feature=channel_page

Trouble Understanding Words by the Serious Young Insects
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2UArnB9J69k&feature=channel_page

Fortune Teller by the Throb
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LuVMYv8i5Aw&feature=channel_page

Krome Plated Yabby by the Wild Cherries
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U45T-nGj2Wo&feature=channel_page

Woman with Reason by Company Caine
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dlq3PROBWsU&feature=channel_page

9.50 by the Twilights

Sad Lonely and Blue by the Easybeats
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zur7BcwlC8A&feature=channel_page

Hope you enjoy the videos and feel free to leave a comment. You might also wish to check out a few of my original song demos on my main page:

I look forward to seeing more posts of Aussie videos.

Re: PLEASE LIST ALL YOUTUBE/VIDEO LINKS UNDER THIS THREAD

All good mcphert1, just as I suggested. Here again is the link for Doug Parkinson on GTK in '72 performing an excellent, but otherwise unrecorded song 'Only You And I Know'

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KNOp9DNTByQ

If ya want more familiar Doug, he's here with the awesome In Focus performing "Then I Run"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABb4Uzg8Qac

& the best version of Dear Prudence ever commited to tape:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4IBKOvyIll8

and another I posted elsewhere Carson with the equally awesome tonsils of Brod Smith performing 'My Little Angel':

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4IBKOvyIll8

And as you might expect I have to include a couple of Renee Geyer faves. First up we have Renee at the start of her career with Mother Earth in 1973, doing a brilliant funk version of James Taylor's "Country Road" which she has never recorded, live or in the studio

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6sqcdjUQxQo

2ndly 25 years later. Renee had returned more permanently to Australia in 1998 to resume her career after 15 years in the US. She re-signed with Mushroom Records, the home of most of her classic recordings, a little bit larger than we remember her perhaps, but proving with her major comeback single, a magnificent full tilt R & B stomper called "I'm The Woman Who Loves You (written by Ross Wilson & Joe camilleri), that her voice was better, & if possible more powerful & stronger than ever. Here she is on the old Frankie J. Holden show doing that single, one of my Top 5 Renee faves:

Well this wasn't here last night. Here's Renee geyer with her first band Sun in what is likely also her very first TV appearance in April 1972.

She certainly looks very uncomfortable & seems to look everywhere except into the Camera lens But THAT voice is there already, & she's only about 18 here & looking VERY much like Courtney Love (movie actress & wife of deceased Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain in case you didn't know)

Hi Mark

Don't forget to include the Stevie Wright link here where we are now keeping all youtube/video clips, rather than have individual entries that will get lost in the forum somewhere.

Besides which we all have differing tastes & because of that I don't think anybody is or should be seen to be that much more important than anybody else to the extent where they deserve their own thread

Thanks for that

Thanks Stampy, some great ones garage/beat classics there

I've also found a page full of clips by Australia & NZ's original rock 'n' roll lady "Dinah Lee", including a couple of tracks from a new album she's released called "Islands", plus of course a few old Dinah classics too. One of those new ones, "He's Got The Power" is a great song & more than proves that the lady, who must be nearing retirement age even though she's obviously not about to, sounds great & looks fantastic. In fact Dinah is still very recognisable as our "Queen of The Mods" from 45 years ago . This song has a brilliant guitar solo too.

http://www.youtube.com/user/yockomo

Sounds like the new album might be a good investment & being released through MDS (Mushroom Distribution Services) shouldn't be too hard to find a copy at your friendly record store. In fact even Sanity have it here:

http://www.sanity.com.au/product/product.asp?sku=2011324

But JB Hi Fi is half the price:

Thought these might be of interest to some

Only clues are: that it was taped off-air in the early-to-mid '80's, and is reportedly a Brisbane band.

Lead singer sounds very much like Mark Callaghan (Riptides / Gangajang), but looks pretty much too young to be him (unless it's earlier than we all think)...

This is the Delltones big hit from Bandstand. The poster (Bruiserboots) took the available 35 seconds of the song from Bandstand and re-edited it to the whole length of the song. A great example of the hard work some you tubers do to spread the word about their favourite artists. Check out his you tube page for lots of early Bee Gees songs. Hiya folks,

I had this sent to me today by the Melbourne performer, Shane Laffy, brother of guitarist, Peter Laffy (ex Mondo Rock, et al).

I thought you might enjoy it.. It is quite well done.

I think the clip is fairly recent but Shane Laffy has certainly been around long enough to qualify for our criteria.

I should add that the person who uplioaded this has quite a few clips taken from the same Music Express Golden Oldies show, including John rowles as JR performing The End.
