SUGGESTIONS & GUIDELINES FOR USE IN DISCUSSION FORUM

If you want to upload an album or songs to this section of the site, please ensure that it's not already on a physically available CD or one that's slated for future release on CD. By that we mean the actual Disc with artwork and packaging which you can physically hold in your hands.

To check on that availability, most often but not always on independent labels, the best sources  are reputable music traders like JB Hi Fi, Sydney's Red Eye Records & Timewarp's mail order division and for major label releases only, Sanity. Also check an artist's or a record label's online website ie Aztec Music, Raven or Canetoad Records. If you're still unsure then please ASK as someone is sure to know.

The minimum bitrate to upload at is 256kbps but must be 320 if ripping the music yourself.  Lower bit rates may only be accepted if there truly is no other option ie you are a 2nd or 3rd party . Many would disagree, but it's sometimes better to have something of extreme rarity in poor quality than not at all. But again ask if someone has a better rip before uploading your inferior one.

Artwork is highly desired but not a pre-requisite when uploading as someone in the group may be able to provide it later if you can't e.g. you have no scanner. However in all cases when posting an album in the discussion forum, please let us know if the CD art is included or not. If it is then is it

(a) the full artwork CD ready ie front & back cover scans, any gatefold inserts and tray insert. For best results we recommend scanning all 4 corners of L.P. covers before stitching so all information on the cover is available.
(b) just front & back only with no tray insert
(c) or just front cover scan only. The latter is to be discouraged completely unless you intend providing the back scan later. In which case wait till then & upload both.

ALWAYS: If providing art, please also list it as A SEPARATE LINK even if it is included with the main music file. This is so that others who only need the art don't have to download 80-100 mg of music they already own to get it.

Lastly, we appreciate that some here do have difficulty in stitching the scans together, so it is initially acceptable to upload unstitched scans. Someone may help & do the job for you, uploading these at a later stage. However it is strongly suggested that you keep practicing your own skills .

Re: 'The music goes round my head' - history of 60s Aust.pop - now available

Thanks all you guys. I've been rapt with the number of Midoztouch orders. I hope it lives up to everyone's expectations!

Re: 'The music goes round my head' - history of 60s Aust.pop - now available

Dave,
Congratulations in putting the baby to bed! A great big thank you from me for your hard work and to all the others who made it possible. Here's hoping it is a huge seller and you have to write a follow-up! My order will be in shortly

Re: 'The music goes round my head' - history of 60s Aust.pop - now available

Received it in the post today - looks fantastic! Cannot wait to read it. Cheers Dave.

Re: 'The music goes round my head' - history of 60s Aust.pop - now available

I'm being interviewed about my book on Red Symons' show tomorrow morning (Tues.14/9) at 6.45am and extensively on Ron Glover's show on MDR (Mountain District Radio, Dandenong Ranges 97.1FM) Wednesday between 11am at 2pm.

Other interviews coming up in a week or two include Gary Young on Melbourne's RRR, Mick Pealing on INR-FM and Brian Wise on 'Off the record', RRR.

Re: 'The music goes round my head' - history of 60s Aust.pop - now available

I didn't get to hear you "live" on Red's show as I am already on the train by that time, but hear is the link to the interview:

Re: 'The music goes round my head' - history of 60s Aust.pop - now available

Dave,
I received my copy today and am touched that my band is mentioned. That is not the reason I wanted the book but it is nice to know that our name is preserved in history. I am humbled by your generosity to Support Act. I know that there are people in the industry who do need help and you will be remembered for that. The bonus is the information contained within. I will be able to peruse it at my leisure and discover new and exciting things about people that I had heard but never got the opportunity to see perform. To all Midozers, you need to buy a copy!! A mighty job well done and a sincere thank you

Re: 'The music goes round my head' - history of 60s Aust.pop - now available

Thanks for these nice compliments Dave.

I'm gratified by similar from others mentioned in the book:

Gary Young "…the book arrived yesterday and I haven't been able to get my head out of it. It's absolutely FANTASTIC…the DEFINITIVE book about '60s Oz rock...On every page I've learnt something new about the old (if ya get what I mean!)" and…

Judy Jacques "Congratulations on your book! It is an incredibly comprehensive and scholarly work, without the 'hype'. A HUGE amount of work and I appreciate very much being included."

If you still want to know more, and hear some great Aussie music from the era I'm on Mick Pealing's Wrokdown INR 96.5FM radio show on Friday at 8.00am (streamed at http://www.innerfm.org.au/portal07/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=689&Itemid=74) and am essentially co-hosting Gary Young's 'Chicken Mary' show on RRR on Monday between 2 and 4 (streaming - http://www.rrr.org.au/programs/streaming/)

Hope you'll forgive all the attention I seem to be drawing to myself. Be assured, I'm definitely not the star of this venture, it's the music, the people, and, through the charity, their wellbeing.

Re: 'The music goes round my head' - history of 60s Aust.pop - now available

I got my copy a couple of days ago in the post and have not been able to put it down. I am already racing through 1968 and am getting upset that it has to end all too soon.

I have to say, I read a lot of music books but this has to be one of the best I have come across in a long time. It's certainly the best book I have ever read about Australian pop music - better even than Iain McIntyre's "Tomorrow Is Today". A good balance between fact, anecdote, period feel, detail and overview - and a riveting narrative as well.

I take my hat off to you and I hope the book does really well.

You are right David, you are not THE star, But you are certainly one of the stars and fully deserve the admiration and the thanks of us all.
A tremendous effort for a tremendous result

Re: 'The music goes round my head' - history of 60s Aust.pop - now available

Dave, I revieved the book today... YOU are the MAN. It far exceeded all my expectations. I can't put it down.
Thank you so much

Re: 'The music goes round my head' - history of 60s Aust.pop - now available

Well done Dave.
My copy arrived today & really has diverted my attention from the other three books I'm reading at present.
It'll have pride of place in the Oz section of my little rock library.

Re: 'The music goes round my head' - history of 60s Aust.pop - now available

Great job Dave.....a terrific read and record of a pivotal period in Australian music history. It's an absolute credit to you and hopefully the Australian Musicians' Benevolent Charity will reap a fitting reward of your efforts.

Cheers,
RAM

Re: 'The music goes round my head' - history of 60s Aust.pop - now available

Got my copy today in the mail. Very impressed with everything in the book.

Thank you David for this publication, it will take pride in place with the other Aussie '60s books & magazines that I have at my disposal!!

Re: 'The music goes round my head' - history of 60s Aust.pop - now available

Thanks again for the compliments - makes it all worth while. For those who hesitate to buy online, copies are now available at The Last Record Store in Smith Street, Brunswick, and I'm negotiating with Readings and Vicious Sloth (all in Melbourne, sorry interstate Midozers at this stage). Harry Butler's Oz Music Shop in Adelaide, and Chris Spencer's Moonlight Publishing seem likely to carry copies too, but, once again, they are online stores. There's more description of the book at the Support Act site - http://www.supportact.com.au/ss/salutations-201009p06-2

Re: 'The music goes round my head' - history of 60s Aust.pop - now available

Dave,
I decided to pace myself reading your book - there's too much onfo to try to digest in a hurry so I'm taking it easy &, I suspect, enjoying all the more.
I'm also pleased that I don't agree with everything you've written. It's good to argue with a book, not with the statements of fact of course just with personal observations, asides etc. Some day I'll ahve to take you to task about Gene Vincent & the Elvis clone comment but for now, it's back to the book to enjoy & learn some more AUSSIE stuff.

Re: 'The music goes round my head' - history of 60s Aust.pop - now available

David - Let us know if you get the book into Readings.

I will then recommend it as a purchase to the public libraries where I am a member - some of these seem to use Readings as their supplier.

Re: 'The music goes round my head' - history of 60s Aust.pop - now available

As well as directly from www.roundmyhead.com, my book is now available from Vicious Sloth Collectables, High Street, Malvern; Greville Records, Prahran and The Last Record Store, Smith Street, Collingwood. More to come.

Re: 'The music goes round my head' - history of 60s Aust.pop - now available

Thanks Dave. Have put my order in, Looking forward to the read. Cheers Radar

Re: 'The music goes round my head' - history of 60s Aust.pop - now available

Book has arrived, Thanks Dave. Will start reading on weekend.

Re: 'The music goes round my head' - history of 60s Aust.pop - now available

'The music goes round my head' is now available from Basement Discs, Block Place, Melb.CBD.

Re: 'The music goes round my head' - history of 60s Aust.pop - now available

Got my copy on Friday & I hate it already!!!

Didn't mow the lawn; didn't wash the car; didn't do my housework and ate takeaway all weekend!!!!!
Can't get my head out of the ****ed thing, and what's worse is that I'm only up to 1966, so it
looks like the rest of the week is shot too!!

It's a great read Dave, many many thanks.

Cheers,

Chris

Re: 'The music goes round my head' - history of 60s Aust.pop - now available

Sounds like the perfect recommendation Chris

Either that or you just read too darn slow

Cheers

Re: 'The music goes round my head' - history of 60s Aust.pop - now available

'The music goes round my head' is now available from Collins Books, Main Street, Croydon (Melbourne eastern suburb).

Re: 'The music goes round my head' - history of 60s Aust.pop - now available

Have finished the book. Great read, loved it. Like Chris it drew me in and i just wanted to keep going till i finished. Well done dave.

Re: 'The music goes round my head' - history of 60s Aust.pop - now available

Dave,

Sorry for the scare I gave you with my previous post & thanks for the email.

I've (finally) finished the book - I did have to go to work which slowed the pace a bit - and felt obliged to reiterate what a fabulous read it was.
I'm sure I'll pick it up again & enjoy it just as much in a few months & find things I missed this time.
Congratulations to yourself & all concerned with the publishing. How nice to see it printed in Australia as well. Fabulous work!!
Have you maybe considered 1970 - 1979 with the likes of AC/DC, Angels, Chisel, & the Aussie pub rock phenomenon etc as a follow up volume? Just a thought.
Who needs to cut grass, do housework or eat properly anyway?

Regards,

Chris

In and around Melbourne you can pick it up for $40 per book over the counter at those wonderful book/music specialist stores:
Basement Discs, Block Place (off Collins Street), Melbourne CBD
Essendon 2nd.Hand CDs, Records & Books, 20 Russell Street, Essendon

Re: 'The music goes round my head' - history of 60s Aust.pop - now available

I am very pleased to announce that David has produced an audio version of his 'The Music Goes Round My Head' book, exclusively for our radio station.

In this series of audio chapters, David will be reading his own written word and further enhancing the narrative by playing much of the music that he so
richly explores in the book.

In the coming weeks, we’ll be airing the 30 minute introduction to David’s audio-book, with the series of full hour audio-chapters to follow in 2012.

Please keep an eye out for announcements regarding air dates and repeat times.

The entire production is David’s. I would like to congratulate him for creating an engaging, high-quality audio interpretation of his own written work.

Thank you David for taking the time and skills to produce this outstanding series for MiR.

Regards, Graham
