SUGGESTIONS & GUIDELINES FOR USE IN DISCUSSION FORUM

If you want to upload an album or songs to this section of the site, please ensure that it's not already on a physically available CD or one that's slated for future release on CD. By that we mean the actual Disc with artwork and packaging which you can physically hold in your hands.

To check on that availability, most often but not always on independent labels, the best sources  are reputable music traders like JB Hi Fi, Sydney's Red Eye Records & Timewarp's mail order division and for major label releases only, Sanity. Also check an artist's or a record label's online website ie Aztec Music, Raven or Canetoad Records. If you're still unsure then please ASK as someone is sure to know.

The minimum bitrate to upload at is 256kbps but must be 320 if ripping the music yourself.  Lower bit rates may only be accepted if there truly is no other option ie you are a 2nd or 3rd party . Many would disagree, but it's sometimes better to have something of extreme rarity in poor quality than not at all. But again ask if someone has a better rip before uploading your inferior one.

Artwork is highly desired but not a pre-requisite when uploading as someone in the group may be able to provide it later if you can't e.g. you have no scanner. However in all cases when posting an album in the discussion forum, please let us know if the CD art is included or not. If it is then is it

(a) the full artwork CD ready ie front & back cover scans, any gatefold inserts and tray insert. For best results we recommend scanning all 4 corners of L.P. covers before stitching so all information on the cover is available.
(b) just front & back only with no tray insert
(c) or just front cover scan only. The latter is to be discouraged completely unless you intend providing the back scan later. In which case wait till then & upload both.

ALWAYS: If providing art, please also list it as A SEPARATE LINK even if it is included with the main music file. This is so that others who only need the art don't have to download 80-100 mg of music they already own to get it.

Lastly, we appreciate that some here do have difficulty in stitching the scans together, so it is initially acceptable to upload unstitched scans. Someone may help & do the job for you, uploading these at a later stage. However it is strongly suggested that you keep practicing your own skills .

Speaking of "On the loose Again" ;)
Does anyone have a good quality copy of this tune to share?
Hard to find without scratches or overdone cleaning noises.
TIA.

Re: Steve Groves

Here are some Tin Tin tracks.
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=SM4S8J9Y

01 Tin Tin - Back To Winona
02 Tin Tin - Come On Over Again
03 Tin Tin - Strange One
04 Tin Tin - Halfway Up The Wall
05 Squire - Strange One (acetate demo)
06 Tin Tin - Shana (acetate demo)

The hauntingly beautiful "Strange One" was written by Carl Groszmann of Down The Dustpipe fame (written for Status Quo). Carl also wrote Shana and Back To Winona. You can note the similarity between Dustpipe and Winona.
The Squire is the name under which Tin Tin released Strange One/Halfway Up The Wall in the UK. In the US and in the rest of Europe it was released as Tin Tin. These are the Italian versions
I have also included two unreleased original demos.

I have Steve Groves and Steve Kipner as The *** if any interest but that is another very intriguing story that you can already find on the internet

Re: Steve Groves

Thanks Dave. Carl Groszmann called himself Carl Keats in Steve & the Board and wrote most of their songs. The Steve & the Board CD is available on Ascension from Timewarp.

Re: Steve Groves

Numbat - I can help you out with that single. I'll post a clean rip tomorrow.

Re: Steve Groves

Anyone have the single 'Remains to be seen' that the two Steves, imaginatively calling themselves 'Steve & Stevie', recorded between Steve & the Board/Kinetics and Tin Tin?

Re: Steve Groves

Steve and Stevie made a full self-titled album (including 'Remains to Be Seen') in 1968 -- for Toast records, funnily enough. It's available @ 320 from the site Musica Acida. It's probably easiest to go straight there, as the rigmarole is a bit complicated, but this is the drill:
The main download is at
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=HEH51I6N
It's missing some tracks. They are at
http://rapidshare.com/files/99338861/steve_and_stevie__missing_tracks__mza-acid.blogspot.com_.rar
Plus there's a password on both:
www.mza-acid.blogspot.com
It's worth the fiddling about. As they say on the site, it's an exclusive rare beauty. The artwork is excellent too.
Cheers
Dale

Re: Steve Groves

Warning: This one is just for fun!

Some of you may already be aware of this one, but the first thing recorded by the two Steves when Tin Tin signed with Maurice Gibb was a Groves original called "Have You Heard The Word" on which Maurice takes the lead and does a more than fair imitation of John Lennon.

How fair is the impersonation? Good enough that the track has appeared on many Beatle bootlegs as an outtake - and in 1985 Yoko actually tried to register the US copyright in John's name!

The track was originally released under the group name The Fut. It's a bit rough and 192 kB was the best I could find:

Re: Steve Groves

Yeah thanks guys, very appreciative for these, been trying to get them for a long time.

Re: Steve Groves

Let's make the collection complete (if we can). Anyone have Tin Tin's first single from 1969, Only Ladies Play Croquet/Manhattan Woman?

Re: Steve Groves

Thanks Roger for posting OTLA.
Unfortunately,i am not now able to get the file.
I get this message:

"This file is neither allocated to a Premium Account, or a Collector's Account, and can therefore only be downloaded 10 times.
This limit is reached."

So i guess because i was a bit slow
coming back after the Front Page went down,
i have missed it.

Re: Steve Groves

Hi, Numbat

If you want to email me off-site, I'll gladly email OTLA to you!

Re: Steve Groves

Has anyone come across the Kinetics songs Tomorrow Today & Fed-uping Day from their 2nd & 3rd singles?.
I would love to complete the set of 6 songs they recorded in their brief career in Melbourne in the sixties. I would be happy to pay a good price if it helped to obtain MP3's of these two rarities.

What are the "missing tracks" that are referred to? I downloaded the album at some point but I don't know if that included the extra tracks or not. I have ten tracks. Are there more?

Hi Go on you tube and search for Steve Groves Band singing On the Loose, Again.

There are two versions. One sung by Marty Rhone. The other by Steve Groves who wrote the song with me. I was the lyricist and wrote with Groves for ten years.

Re: Steve Groves

The Steve and Stevie album has been issued on CD by Magic Records in France. It is available directly from the company website and is well worth buying. I think Magic have also reissued the Tin Tin LPs.
