Do Aldermen Vote Anything They're Told?

The good buds in city council followed along and voted to make a show for the schools with science kits, textbooks, science labs, and Smartboards. They just signed another 5.3 Million to redecorate the high school library with a stage and kitchenette. Those things have done little to make the schools do better. It's worse than ever. What matters is what they do with science labs and smartboards - or without - not that they are there.

Questions -

Will the city council go along and blindly follow again to bail out years of mismanagement and lack of planning on technology and computers just as they did with the rest?

How much of the 1,500,000 will go to hide that George Pasos needs the city to buy the way out of the mess he made here?

Will the city council vote more money for the schools every time the mayor and superintendent ask?

Just asking.

Do you realize that we don't have a city council? Just asking.

Re: Do Aldermen Vote Anything They're Told?

Board of Aldermen (not City Council--but basically same diff)

Re: Do Aldermen Vote Anything They're Told?

When you trade your soul ($) for health insurance, then you must do what you are told.
How any BOA member can look themselves in the mirror for stealing tax money for their personal use says it all.

Your fools, too. Schools take money to operate. Nothing gets bought for free. A couple million dollars invested in computers is nothing compared to the regular budget. So we spend a couple million dollars every once in a while. Big Deal. Pay your taxes and let the professionals decide where to invest the money.

Re: Do Aldermen Vote Anything They're Told?

"let the professionals decide where to invest the money." Oh you mean like the bozos who nearly lost MHS their accreditation (most of the still sitting school committee)? Or perhaps you mean the IT director who neglected and made such a mess of the district that now it will take millions to correct it?

"let the professionals decide where to invest the money"

Whose money are the "professionals" investing?
The bottom line is that Melrose "professionals" are not trusted because of their history and current antics.
Many in Melrose are struggling to pay their own bills and don't TRUST the need for School Administration bonuses, a new Dick Lyons tennis court, excessive funding and focus on playgrounds or paying for BOA members health insurance. We do not live in Iraq, China, Russia or countless other countries with dictators who abuse anyone who questions the system. We are Americans who value democracy which gives us the right to question our government and have input into how OUR MONEY is spent and budgeted.

Explain the mess you claim he made.

I agree... it's taxpayer money and people who work for a paycheck and pay their own bills have a right to question elected officials. Going along to get along is the way politics works in Melrose. Sad but true.

They prove you right if they go along with the mayor on the water rates again. The tiers are a lame excuse to jack up water bills on people who have many people on one meter in condo buildings and in large families. The mayor only cares to suck money out of the residents every way he can. The aldermen better learn not go along with him any more.
